18 September 2006

moving unexpectedly So my apartment was somewhat flooded yesterday...[More:] It wasn't too awful; only about ankle deep. Everyone is fine and we got pretty much everything that could be ruined off of the floor. The water even went back down pretty quickly. But now I have to move so that the damage and mold/mildew issues in the walls can be addressed.

I'm moving to a different building in the same complex over the weekend. It's gonna be upstairs! Not sure how much I'll be in touch here and on IRC in the meantime.

In a lot of ways, this is actually going to turn out to be a positive thing. I'm trying to remember to take those lemons and make lemonade.

Hugs to all you bunnies!
It's likely I'll be moving at some point in the future, albeit temporarily. My flat is subsiding, due to tree roots (one of the downsides of living by a forest) and the foundations will need to be underpinned. The affected part is my kitchen, and it looks as if the whole corner wall will need to be taken down and rebuilt. Probably a 3-6 month job, so I'll have to go into temporary accommodation.

I'm insured, no biggie. The insurance will cover it. It's not gonna fall down while I'm in Vegas (I hope!) so I'm not going to worry about it for now. I'll let the insurers do that.

It's always nicer being on the second floor lily. Now you can go out and leave all the windows open, without worrying that some dude will climb in and steal all your things.

Amen, pie! The view out the back of the new place is a lovely tree. Much better than the brick wall I've been getting to see out my kitchen window. The front view is a parking lot, regardless, but no more car headlights shining into my bedroom at odd hours. Hooray!

Bummer.

Be sure to send your new bookmark address to your swap partner if it looks like you won't be at the old one for the pick up. Or I guess there's always postal forwarding... Your call! But maybe let'em know.

Take care & stay dry!

Watch out with postal forwarding. The Internet sites where people can search your information for free pick up that kind of stuff.

I'll definitely be sending my postcard swap partner my new address once I'm positive that's where I'm being sent. How else am I gonna get a present in the mail?
