The Davis development (Village Homes) wasn't for hobbits -- it was for people who like solar power and green space.
But like for Hobbit fans, there is a development for Thomas Kinkade fans. (Except that the marketing for Hiddenbrooke was so unsuccessfuly, his name is no longer attached to it.)
I can confirm that I too have never seen a house like this in England. Never. And if I did see it I'd be wondering who managed to get planning permission for such a monstrosity.
That's "American English" I think. You know, like the way they butchered the language into something almost unrecognisable and claim it's still English.
Looks like a perfect setting for a re-make of The Stepford Wives.
I read about this in the Oregonian. They had a pretty impressive picture of something that looked like Frodo's house, but it turned out that it was a storage shed. It turns out that the Shire was chosen as a name in retrospect and the community has nothing to do with LOTR. Besides, show me one fanboy who can afford to live here, even with all the money he saves by living in his mother's basement. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
