A Little Late Afternoon Reading. →[More:]As inspired by a MeFi post about a similar (though far less subtle) practice.

Shaw's short story is one of my favorites, as he manages to evoke so many elements (sunlight and sound) with so little exposition.

That's excellent. There isn't a bit of cruft in the whole thing. It would be hard to write a better story that does as many things as this one does as efficiently as this one does them.
