High memory prices? [More:]
Anyone know what's causing the high memory prices right now? I used to be able to get 2x512MB of DDR on newegg for about $80, and it was good stuff (Crucial, Kingston, etc.). Now there's not a single one below $100. Did something happen to cause this?
Take your pick; high prices for DDR2 pushing up DDR prices generally, producers covering the costs of moving to 12-inch chip plants, or system manufacturers gearing up for Vista and bumping demand for RAM. Probably all of the above.
