05 September 2006

I just put my daughter on her first ever school bus. [More:]
Today was her first day of kindergarten. She's in the afternoon class and the bus picks up around 11. I work a long way from her school but drove the 90 minute round trip to her babysitter's house to take pictures! (But the pictures won't be on flickr till tomorrow at the earliest.)

She did really well. It was a good thing her little friend Annelise was with her; otherwise I think she would have clung and cried. As it was she climbed right on (leading the way for A.) and grabbed a window seat! The kids already on the bus looked so nervous; it was hilarious.

I've never been the oh-noes-my-baby's-growing-up type, but it was really sweet to see her climb on that bus like a big girl. I'm so glad I'm the one picking her up today so I can get the first-hand fresh-from-the-presses scoop on her first day! In yer face, mom!
Very good. Next step is teaching her how to torment the bus driver.

Very cool! Glad to hear it wasn't a traumatic event for either of ya. :)

Glad that it went so smoothly, mike. And can't wait to see the pics! Did she get "starting school" swag?

I bought her a watch but it clashed with the outfit her mom dressed her in so she didn't want to wear it. Heh. Also, daddy was a big meanie and told her she can't take it to school unless she is actually wearing it. (She has a history of losing accessories at school and getting really upset about it - it's for her own good!)

Homeschool 'er, Mike! Ehh, I guess it's not that easy.

I remember my first day of kindergarten. My mommy took a picture of me in my blue demin dress under a white shirt with a collar. I had a picture of a clown that I'd colored in.

Now I wish I had my baby/kiddie pictures with me.

Yay for Hunter!

Well Mike, it's quite a day! Way to go Hunter! I am going to hop onto this thread with my own proud picture. Sophie started SK today, which means 5 days a week, full days. She was quite excited this morning. Currently, our work schedules don't much mesh with the bus schedule, so I haven't had to deal with that yet!
Take a look:

I remember my first day of kindergarten.

Due to being a December baby, I came in halfway through kindergarten (some legality about age requirements). I missed something in those first few months and I don't think I've yet caught up.

I vividly remember my first day on the bus. It was pretty tramautic (my parents showed up and I got clingy, and then kids made fun of me). Thankfully, I was transferred to a closer school district a few weeks later and got to walk to school with some older friends of my brother.

My parents tell this story about my brother: The day before kindergarten started, they took my brother to the babysitter's, then drove him to school, met the teacher, let him play in the playground for awhile, then drove him back to the babysitter's. The next day, he was all ready for the bus. He rode the bus to school, played in the playground for a bit, then got right back on the bus (when all the other kids went to class) and tried to ride it home!
