I just goatsed a hotlinker.
"Sentences That Wouldn't Have Made Any Sense Five Years Ago"????

That's hardcore. I'd have just replaced the file with a copy of goatse.
posted by GeckoDundee 05 September | 07:27
Also, is "to goatse (v)" to tear someone, not so much a new one, as a much bigger, original one? Or is it more like Ultimate Mooning?

That's what I did Gecko, replaced the pic with Goatse. He snagged a pic from a post I did on The Virgin Spring so I replaced that one with goatse and renamed the original.

His site is all about militant Christian evangelization [complete with Oliver Cromwell quotes [like he was a role model??]]

Sorry, mate. I was making a stupid joke.
posted by GeckoDundee 05 September | 08:01
Ah, well, it wasn't quite 8AM when I read it, so my fault for not getting it.
posted by sciurus 05 September | 08:03
No worries. BTW, Oliver Cromwell really is a role model to these types. Scary, eh?
posted by GeckoDundee 05 September | 08:29
The most interesting thing about King Charles the First is that he was five feet six inches tall at the start of his reign, but only four foot eight inches tall at the end of it.
posted by sciurus 05 September | 08:43
Lol. It took me a while to, em, get my head around that.
posted by GeckoDundee 05 September | 08:48
That's from a Monty Python song called Oliver Cromwell.
posted by sciurus 05 September | 09:02
He bled to death after having his legs cut off from below the knee?

Ole! Ireland! (I'm with you, bloke).

To be honest though, I was thinking "1066 And All That" until the penny dropped.

No, Daniel Charms, that was Queen Victoria, and she survived the operation.

That book looks hilarious.

I've always thought goatseing hotlinkers is really mean- because innocent bystanders get goatsed in the process, and that's really really really mean.

Well, the more heinous the punishment is the better the lesson is learned.

That'll learn 'em to hotlink images.
posted by LunaticFringe 05 September | 10:02
Goatse isn't that bad, really. It'd been so long since I'd seen it that it was like an old friend.
posted by sciurus 05 September | 10:05
I'm not talking about the hotlinker- I'm talking about the poor people who have nothing to do with the whole thing, who probably don't even know what hotlinking is, they're just trying to look for information on militant Christian evangelism, trying to do some good in this world by their belief system, and they get subjected to goatse. It's just really childish and cruel.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 05 September | 10:05
Eh, he's got the same image hotlinked THREE times on his main page. The "good" this guy is talking about is akin to Fred Phelps and his ilk, [God hates teh gays, etc.] so he gets the goatse.
posted by sciurus 05 September | 10:11
So turn off the image. Take it down, and he gets Xs. Because that would save the bandwith you are trying to save, right? And this is all about bandwith, right?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 05 September | 10:16
I don't have FTP access at work, so no, I can't take down the image.
posted by sciurus 05 September | 10:31

Hah! This line makes it all worth it.
posted by small_ruminant 05 September | 12:25
p.s. I vote against taking it down. Jerks.
posted by small_ruminant 05 September | 12:26
What's this clown's site? And when he (inevitably) copies the original pic to self-host it, don't neglect to send him and his ISP a DMCA takedown notice.

And goatse isn't being too mean; there are plenty of far "meaner" images, given the context. (The "gay Jesus" portraits being the mildest.)

Could have been far worse, like that Canadian college newspaper cartoon [NSFW; NSFChristians; NSFCapitalists].

I'll grant you that maybe 1% of the hotlinkers don't realise they are being antisocial twits. The problem is lecturing or playing nice with the other 99% is like playing a giant game of whack a mole. They may stop stealing off of sciurus but that just means they've move on to me and vice versa.

However if I get the thief's users/clients/parents mad at them they'll think twice about hotlinking anyone not just me. That's the theory anyways.

On a purely selfish note it gives me a pre Information Super Highway warm and fuzzy feeling to get a little revenge on these wankers.

Well, there's the problem right there.
