Ask Mecha Downloading MeFi Music?→[More:]
Can you d/l the tracks on MeFi? Bear in mind please that I don't have an account there. For all I know, MeFites have a huge "Download Here" button, but all I see is a flash player.

It's here! MetaFilter Music.

I've uploaded most of the files people have sent me (I'll be adding more all day today). Lots of great stuff already. Electronica, rock, folk, it's all there. It uses the Andromeda streaming/download server which lets you download* songs, stream folders/songs, and lets you make playlists on the fly.

Oh, I also added a new MetaTalk category to discuss music.metafilter.com-related stuff here.

Next to the flash player, I see a disc, which lets me download a song when I press it.

When you go inthread you should see ≡ Click to see image ≡ next to the flash player. If you don't see that then you cannae DL, although bunnies w/ accounts prolly could. The ≡ Click to see image ≡ doesn't show up on the main page though.

Are you logged in? You probably have to be logged in to download. (just guessing)

Thanks guys. No I'm not logged in. I guess this is something I would need a MeFi account to know about. :(

I wonder why I thought I had d/l something from Music. Perhaps it was also on someone's (external to MeFi) web space.

If you have no account, you can't see the "Save As" Icon. However, if you follow the rss feed links, you can see the names of the files and download them...

e.g. take the filename from the lines which look like...
<enclosure url="http://music.metafilter.com/music/ducks.mp3" length="2389891" type="audio/mpeg"/>

and either curl or type http://music.metafilter.com/music/ducks.mp3 into your address bar.

An easier option would be to add the rss link address as a podcast to iTunes.

Hope that made a little bit of sense.

I have a mefi account but when I go to the music page my stone age computer immediately freezes up. Can someone help me out with a download link (or mp3 name so I can use seanyboy's trick) for the "Mathowie's Weblog" track?
