We're Not Worthy! Cortex has done it.

*Bows, Worships*
Done what, broken Metafilter?

Is it me, or does it go down every single night lately?

I was thinking of starting a "Monday Barbie" for the Aussies and insomniacs. On Sunday MeFi time (Monday daytime here), it always seems to be down. I'd guess that the Labor Day holiday will make this worse.

It's possible hordes of folks, seeking the very page linked above, broke MeFi. But what cortex (and his talented brother) did was record "Mathowie's Community Webpage". The chain of genius begins with Arlo Guthrie, thence through the fevered imagination of Divine_Wino, on via the inspired quill of IRFH, to the reels of the cortex lab and finally onto MeFi.

It's been down quite a bit lately during my morning/afternoon (early-early morning, U.S.).

So, more about this Monday Barbie, GeckoDundee? Tell! Tell!

Well, taz, it ocurred to me a while back. I think it sort of started here.

There are times when it's pretty quiet here and they often co-incide with MeFi being down (see above). So I thought we could have a Monday arvo / Sunday night virtual BBQ. You know, a few cold beers, some snags, bit of steak*, some backyard cricket even.

Whadda ya reckon?

(*Veggie burgers are cool to, as would be some whole corncobs marinated / mascerated in soy sauce).

My cortex needs some cortex. I've been truly teased here!

On post view: Not the Barbie I imagined. GeckoDundee's is much, much better.

Safetyfork, you haven't heard about my plans for "Tueday Ken" yet, I take it?

It would be a list of statements which begin, "ye ken it's Tuesday when..."

And while I'm here, I meant of course "veggie burgers are cool too".

Ken ya dig it!?! Yes I ken.

I'm in, if I can make it... So give us times, GMT.

Also, we should try to line up DJs for these parties. Also we should make matildaben stay up all night so we can have a Waltzing Matilda, am I rite?

The east coast early risers club might want to crash the occasional barbie if that's cool, too.
posted by safetyfork 04 September | 07:14
I tried to sneak the "US" in front of east coast right in the middle of the post to server. It's like quickdraw with loaded dice (whoa, mixed metaphors), so I'm not surprised by the outcome there.

I restarted it when I got up, sorry about that. the mathowie has been notified.

LOL @ Waltzing Matilda. I wasn't thinking of the kind of barbie that could be crashed, if everybody knows (more or less) everybody, and so long as nobody turns up with a chop and then eats all the steak, or a couple of tins of VB and then drinks a slab of Little Creatures, then everyone's welcome by default. Even the ECERC (US Chapter). Provided they don't tear up the lawn with their hogs that is.

GMT+10 here, I work at home most Mondays. I can YSI some authentic Aussie music to kick things off. Next Monday might be as good a time to start as any.

On preview, get over there now! Thanks, Jess.

But what time, GMT, would this shindig kick off, GeckoDundee?
posted by taz 04 September | 07:42
Anytime from about midnight to 9am GMT?
posted by GeckoDundee 04 September | 07:47
I'm GMT+3, so I could probably show up around 4 or 5 a.m. GMT... Too bad, no beer for me though. I'll have to have a coffee barbie. Maybe I'll have a spot of Irish coffee. Woowoo! :)
