60 GB Video iPod OMG! [More:]Okay, so I'm getting ready for a trip from Houston to California (about 3400 miles eek!) and back and for the (grr) price of an Xbox 360, I am now the proud owner of a video iPod and the relevant accessories to use it in a car for a long road trip.

How I lived without one of these treasures for so long, I have no idea. Already I've got 2 seasons of Smallville on it, the 3rd seasons of Entourage and The 4400, audiobooks of Shogun, The Chronicles of Narnia, Dune, and the latest Harry Potter, plus every mp3 I could find on my hard drive and backup media.

And I've barely filled up 9 gigs! *swoons*

If you've ever had to drive the I-10 west to California, you know there's hardly any radio, and not too many sights to keep you interested in the drive. My little new toy is gonna be a lifesave.

*drools all over keyboard*

What's YOUR favorite gadget that you'd die without (besides your vibrator, I mean).
I hope you aren't driving if you are going to watch all that video!

My iPod is defintely my "can't live without" gadget. It's the only way to drown out the voices.

The thing's not going to be stuck on the dash, or anything like that, dg. It'll be sticking out of the ashtray's lighter socket angled so I can catch it out of the corner of my eye should I choose to, but I'm mainly going for the sound in the car (Battlestar Galactica podcasts! Woot!) and then the video when I'm not doing vacation-y things.

It surprises me to realize that, considering how much technology I use on a daily basis, there isn't a single gadget that would leave much of a dent in my life were it to vanish. I guess I'd get pretty pissy if someone stole my laptop, though.

My Canon S1 IS camera is my favorite shiny thing. It has a huge friggin' zoom, enough buttons and modes to make me feel like a pro (but intuitive enough to make up for the fact that I'm not) and takes sound movies as good as most video cameras. It is just plain fun.

My 6 year old figured out he can make movies of himself, and sometimes I find a movie he made that I didn't even know about.

I'm with cmonkey on this. I don't own an iPod, I have an ancient TV and an antedeluvian VHS video recorder. Last Christmas I bought myself a digital radio, which is great, but I wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it. I like my new camera (Panasonic FZ7) but it's not something I would die of longing for if I didn't own it.

I splurged on a 30g. I have just reached the 1K mark in songs, a few audio podcasts, but have yet to do movies. And I still have like 85% capacity left.
