Nope. The Muzak people have a(n at least quasi-)scientific method to make sure that the stuff appeals to as many people as possible.

I love Muzak. I also love those "easy listening" or "music of your life" radio stations. I'm very into Andy Williams right now.

I never get to hear muzak these days. In Morrison's, my local Supermarket, they play great music from the 1970s, really good stuff like Midnight At The Oasis, and Smoke From A Distant Fire, that hardly anyone knows the words to. I always find myself singing as I do my shopping.

I hate it. It's maddening. You know that Far Side that shows Charlie Parker in hell and he's being forced to listen to New Age music? That's me.

To each his own, however. I do not judge.

My taste for it changed dramatically over a 20-25 year period. I used to hate it. Then my love for string arrangements started to kick in when I first began making Hip Hop tracks. Listening to Muzak afterwards made me step my string game up like a thousand paces.

So, now...I dig it!

I dont' actively hate it. But I hate the idea of it. I hate when I find myself humming along. I feel manipulated, somehow.

You ARE being manipulated! Trust me. The only thing about it I don't like today is when you hear a song you like being played on Muzak. Makes you just wanna hear the damn song right away.

I drove past a small office building, with the word 'MUZAK,' in 2 foot high metal letters above the doors when I was living in Florida. I guess they make it there or maybe they're just big fans.

There is one supermarket I go to that plays "Midnight at the Oasis" only. It encourages my wife to want to kill me, because for the rest of the day it's...
