I thought this challenge was actually kind of boring. Designing for themselves didn't really seem like a "challenge" to the designers, and they all basically came out with stuff that wasn't really a big stretch for them. The makeover of another designer in Season 2 was a lot more interesting.
The episode did get more interesting when the "twist" was revealed near the end.
I liked Michael's better than Jeffrey's, but they were both excellent and it's really just a matter of taste.
Jeffrey - liked what he did, so so so so sick of him. He should have gone last time for his dress.
Angela - time to leave. That was not high fashion, or jet setting in any way.
Uli - She is so sweet. And the dress was very her. Still didn't really fit the challenge though.
Michael - looked awesome. Again, I thought he deserved to win. Everyone says it, but he's just so thoughtful about what he makes. I really hope he wins the whole thing.
Kayne - ugh, no. Jet-setting between Vegas and Memphis?
Laura - Looked lovely. And I loved her with her hair down.
Did anyone notice that last week Jeffrey shot down Angela's mother's request for a jacket because he only had one day to do the challenge, and this week he only had one day to do the challenge, but managed to make himself not only a jacket but pants and a t-shirt that was, what...bedazzled? Hilarious.
Also, his jacket was terribly made - the back was one big pucker. His outfit overall was good, though. I see stuff like that in Hot Topic all the time, but it was good.
I'm just sad I have to wait till Monday for fourfour's recap. I hope he's going to post an MP3 of Uli saying "It doesn't matter how vasted you are....". I loved that quote, I rewound the TiVo 3 times to hear her say it!
Vincent just needed a better story to back up his outfit -- instead of a rock 'n' roll type jetsetter, or a hiphop type jetsetter, he's, say, an artist, and his creative vision of himself calls for clothing that is understated. You know, the intellectual jetsetter as opposed to the party jetsetter. Heh.
I never liked Angela's fashions, and her personality isn't the best either, but I found I was kind of sad to see her go. She was enthusiastic, believed in herself, and never lied or manipulated people.
Michael wins because he's the best designer: he can kick out a beautiful piece of work in a wide variety of styles and make it look effortless, he can justify his decisions articulately, he's creative and adaptable, he knows how to listen to a client or a colleague or a mentor, and he's got a great personality to boot.
