This thread is for posting retro 20th-century links. →[More:]Inspired by this, let's see how lame-o we can be.
And hey, I just found out about this great website... It's called 'News for Nerds'. In fact, that's where I found out about the "All your base" site. You totally shouldn't miss it!
Everquest! That huge and popular MMORPG. The game you loved to hate. And loved to bitch about. There was once a guide in the game who started a blog called "Bowl of Mice" under the name of Tweety which was basically her venting steam at some of the mind-numbingly stupid things people would do in-game. Thanks to the Wayback Machine, we can go to the archive of it. Tweety Rant. Note that a lot of the references are specific to EQ and can get a little bewildering, but the rants are fun to read. 'The Rant Heard Round The World: Try Being a Guide, You Nutless Assmuncher' was the one that she wrote and then got found out by Verant (EQ's makers) and was fired for not being nice. Tweety was then picked up by Mythic, creators of Dark Age of Camelot. The linky above will be slow due to the archiving.
Speaking of rant sites, Lum The Mad used to have a site called "The Rantings of Lum The Mad". When that went under, some enterprising souls created "SlowNewsDay", a site about pretty much the same thing. That site went into spectacular meltdown, but I have found an archive of the banners that were used on it. Gamers and general geeks may find 'em interesting.
Note for true geeks: I still have the article that was the "pulling of the reactor rods" that caused SND to tank out, if you're interested, though that is pretty lame, and I'm sure no one really remembers what I'm talking about. :P
