Requiem for a Seattle Dive Bar I already knew that Broadway is turning into yet another of the soulless corporate strips that define today's Seattle, but the closing of Jimmy Woo's Jade Pagoda is definitely a nail in the coffin. I'm sad that I only went there once.
I once made the mistake of eating there...but never got lit there.
Broadway is changing, alright...into what? I dunno...

Around 11 p.m., Wendy Wiseman, 35, a University of Washington philosophy instructor, was trying to explain Nietzsche to a couple of new friends. In the background, Rod Stewart sang "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" on the jukebox.

I've never even been to your town, but based on that quote alone I offer my

OH MAN, I went there a few times, the most notable time being after the WTO brouhaha. None of us had IDs on us because we were allworried about being arrested and we were thinking "where can we get a drink?" and we all wound up at Jimmie Woo's.

We did? I've only drank there once, and was less than impressed, but still - that doesn't sound like a good sign.

The sign is still there, but the business itself absconded to 82nd ave.

The first time I lived in Portland (late 90's) always used to enjoy ordering gibsons at Hung Far Low-- the bartendress HATED reaching into the jar of cocktail onions, and would bitch about it endlessly. I'm not a total dick, though-- I'd tip her well. (Tip #1: Use a freaking fork...)

That is about the last place still open that was open when I moved here in 1967. I've had a drink there once and eaten there once. I knew it was closing but did not know it was on Thursday, so thanks for the tip.

I hear that they are going to tear down everything south of the filling station on that block. The Vietnamese restaurant, the Elite, the grocery and the Thai restaurant are going as well.

Since they got that rezone to 6 stories passed for Broadway, everything is getting plowed under.

Everything on the east side of Broadway from Twice Sold Tales to the funeral parlor--including Vivace's--is going, too--that's for the light rail tunnel.

That's everything on the east side of Broadway south of John, I meant.

Oh man, as someone who's always hoped to return to the NW some day, this is a bummer. I drank there on many an occasion. And, y2karl's news certainly doesn't bring cheer to my day either.
