Princeton, New Jersey Meetup [More:]How about a nice Sunday get-together in the historic town of Princeton? We're looking at October 1st, meeting mid-morning, and sight seeing at Princeton Cemetery as mentioned here. Then a nice venture around the town. So far, Amro, Prospero, and I are in. How about you?
Can one get there by train?

Yes, TPS, absolutely. You can take NJ Transit from Penn Station to Princeton. I plan to do the reverse for a NYC meetup one of these days!

Oh yeah and the little train from Princeton Jxn to Princeton is so cute!

Oh right. And I'm probably in. It's too far in advance for me to say for certain, but a definite probably.

Yes, I'm probably in, too.

What sort of things are there to see?

I'm not all that familiar with Princeton, myself, but the University is there, with tons of beautifully restored and maintained buildings. We'll do more research as we get closer and pick out points of interest. OOOh, this will be fun!

It's a great walking-around town - lots of shops and restaurants and it's all very picturesque. And of course, there's the university campus, which is also very pretty (the university chapel is gorgeous inside). If you're just asking generally, you might want to check out this website - there are parks, museums, historic homes, theaters, farmers' markets, and four ice cream shops (and I've taste-tested all of them). But beware: it's occasionally overrun with weirdos.

By the way I live pretty much smack-dab in the center of town, so I'm happy to play tour guide. And Prospero's been here longer than me, and I'm sure knows more.

Princeton's status as an enclave of rich people overshadows its status as a college town--not many bookstores (only one of real note), but places where you can buy clothing for your dog, etc. Shopping for someone of my means tends to involve looking, but not touching. But it is indeed a very pretty place.

The University museum is nice, and has more than a few interesting works of art squirrelled away. Triumph Brewery has some of the best beer I've ever had in the United States.

Perhaps later than mid-morning might be better for meeting, if people are coming in from NYC.

crap, I just realised that it's my wedding anniversary. I'll be out of town.

("crap" because obviously I'm a bad wife. oops)
