29 August 2006

On the way home, I stopped at the key food to pick up a few things. I got sugar for coffee, a box of Dulce De Leche Oreos, and a big bottle of Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A. from the Shmaltz brewing company. I'm coating my throat with a Bud to warm up, then it's onto the beer named after a dead comic. If you hear somone kvelling at the moon later, that'll be me.
Double-India pale ale with rye malt?

*drools*

Good lord I hate microbrews, although a Lenny Bruce beer I might make an exception for. I bought a six pack of micro-brew cans on Sunday, some Oregon hippie bullshit, but I'm a sucker for cans and (like jon) novelties. Supposed to be a Scottish ale, but like every other microbrew they just put in fucking hops till it tasted like fucking tons of hops, oh and malt, so much malt, it was so sugary and hoppy, feh. Did have 8% alcohol though so I was totally impaired and grossed out. I'm going on a jihad against American "just throw some hops in it and name it after your old dead dog" microbrews.

I'm about halfways through the quartish bottle (floating on top of the Bud, and a rueben, onion rings and some tiramisu). It tastes strong both in the gustatory and alcohic senses. I've definitely completed pre-liftoff procedures, so to speak. The taste is really hoppy and malty, but in that good kind of way, like the stink of limburger or gorgonzola cheese, where your mouth starts to yearn for it.

(unlike my man wino, I've been known to enjoy a micro-although I'll admit there are plenty of shitty ones out there, or a good import, but I've enjoyed my fair share of the Bud/Sclitz Dad beer axis, and the Olde English/Crazy Horse diviion from back in the day too. It's all beer, ultimately.)

it's all beer but some of it doesn't taste of dulche de leche oreos that have been filtered through Jonmc first.

(those fucking Oreos are amazing, man, nice burnt sugar aftertaste. and like this (also delicious) they're a cool indicator of the Latinization of America. Last time he was at the pad, I ofered joe famous some and he lapsed into Spanish explaining his love of Dulce De Leche, no joke.

I'm starting to get the 'pirate eyes' from this beer. I'm cranking 'Monkey Man,' to sxtend the mood.

Hey, I just had a bottle of that Lenny beer last night. Very good stuff. Seems like times have been good lately for really strong, over-the-top tasting beers. I also loved Double Bastard and 12th Anniversary Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale.
