Last night while twirling radio dials in a car (something I rarely do, cause I'm rarely in a car) I discovered that Little Steven's Underground Garage is broadcasting in New York now!→[More:] Little Steven (aka Miami Steve Van Zandt of E Street Band fame) is a born DJ, with a great radio voice, deep knowledge and exquisite taste. I would love to be his protege.

Sadly the archived shows are in Flash rather than mp3, but you can't have everything, I guess.

Yeah, I have their first album on vinyl and a later one on cassette. His 'I Am A Patriot,' is one of the great protest songs of it's time. It's also great that he can do political music and activism, and be down with the pure manic fun of 60's garage rock.

All i know is that shot of Little Steven, Melle Mel, Duke Booty and David Ruffin marchin' down that street in Soweto was a big Hip Hop moment.

The man is a legend in many ways, no doubt.

(I loves me some 'Sun City,' too. Steve was one of the first rockers to give hip-hop some respect and to integrate the forms well as something other than a gimmick)
