What is the difference between rap and hip hop?

Rap is the music. Hip-hop is the culture surrounding it (fashion, breakdancing, graffitti, etc).

When I used to drive around with my sister, we'd rush to switch the station once any Elton John song came on (anything newer than "Island Girl").

From then on, we referred to him as "Elton Click."
