22 August 2006

I had my first MeCha-related dream last night! And it involved most of you.[More:]Basically, I was stuck in NYC on Thanksgiving because of a business trip. jonmc and Pips, being the lovely hosts that they are, were having a Thanksgiving Day MeCha meetup, to which they encouraged me to come.

I get to their enormous house, which has a view of the Lincoln Memorial to the south and the Sears Tower to the north, and Pips is preparing Thanksgiving dinner, which is NOT turkey with all the trimmings, thank you, but each individual's favoritest food evah. I offer to help, and she said I could feed the pets (2 playful perpetual kittens and 2 bunnies, of course.) So as I was playing with the pets, different people are wandering in and out, but we're all only referring to each other by our usernames. It was a great party. Pretty much everyone was there.

Some features of the enormous house.
-A sunken dining area with seating for about 60 at round tables - this area also had 2 pool tables, air hockey, and several vintage arcade machines.
-A lounge with cheesy 70's shag carpet and nothing but bean-bag chairs.
-The kitchen had this weird appliance that was all-in-one microwave, toaster, toaster oven, convection oven, regular oven, and dishwasher.
-A room that was filled wall-to-wall with one huge mattress (for pillow fights.)
-A first-floor basement (?) - all the dark and dingy of a basement, but without stairs. You know those cheesy beaded curtains? There was one of those made of rusty nails at the entrance of a workshop area of the faux-basement, but I didn't go in.

Then, at the end of the evening, there were credits projected on the wall with names of actors of who was playing the parts of each of the usernames. At least that's what I'd thought, but it turned out to be everyone's real name and some people were freaking the eff out.

At what point did I say "I don't care how horny you are, get out of my house"?

Thanksgiving Day MeCha meetup

OMG that is actually a compelling idea. Can we? Very often I go into NYC to see the parade on Thursday morning. So anyone who wants a parade meetup, lemme know. But even if there's no meetup on the Thursday, what about later in the weekend? I'll be just across the bay in Jersey....

A room that was filled wall-to-wall with one huge mattress (for pillow fights.)

Yeah. Pillow fights. Uh-huh.

Fun dream, ferocious!

ooh, jan, that reminds me - everyone had inappropriate accents. Yours, for example, was French.

That's wild. Sadly there are no enormous houses in Astoria, Queens, only row homes that have been chopped in to apartments.

We also have no pets, but Tula, our deaf, octogenarian Greek landlady is the proud owner of Johnny*, the fattest fucking feline I've ever seen. He looks like a furry pillow with legs. This is probably because the cat is the only being she cooks for. One time he escaped from the house, and from our upstairs porch I saw Tula standing in the alley in her housedress and swollen ankles keening 'Yanni?? Yanni-cat??'

*Johnny is also the name of her mid-40's divorced son who's around a lot of the time (and is fond of surprising me by climbing up to the porch with a ladder unannounced when I'm lounging en deshabille). He's building himself a bachelor pad on the first floor. It's all quite the house of fun

The pool tables/air hockey/arcade games and 70s shag carpet (was it orange?) are spot on (add a bar and home theatre and it's perfect). That new stove/dishwasher contraption sounds spiffy, too. Our current stove is ancient. You have to light the pilot (and chop firewood) to use the oven, so I don't; the strong smell of gas scares me more than it should maybe. I am, however, an expert in stovetop cooking (Hamburger Helper anyone?). I also have a recurring dream where I bounce and slide from room to room of a giant, multi-floor, inflatable bounce-house, alla the "mattress/pillow fight" room. Major fun (and sometimes a little hanky-panky, if I'm lucky).

(I do wonder what's behind the rusty nail curtain, though...)

I would be in favor of a Thanksgiving weekend meetup, mostly because I'm not going to Cali for that weekend in favor of housesitting for my sisters' in-laws. Alas, I already asked and we're not allowed to party there, but I can take the train into wherever we decide to meet in NYC.

Oh, and I must be played by Lea Salonga or Michelle Yeoh in any film adaptations of anything. It's in my contract.

Hamburger Helper anyone?

I shamefully admit that once every 5 to 10 years I get a craving for Hamburger Helper beef stroganoff.

If this were to happen, I'd plead for a Manhattan location, just to make my travels easier.

good stuff, good stuff, goml... they have a new cheesy potato variety...

(a Thanksgiving meetup would be swell, by the by... we'll need a bunny queen for our float...)

So wait... now there may actually BE a Thanksgiving meetup... in NYC... and I'm planning to be in NYC sometimes this fall... and...
