Which greek god or goddess do you identify with? Feel free to choose from Titans and Olympians but also the demigods and the heroic characters (like Jason and Odysseus). Roman variations are OK too.

To refresh your memory: One Greek godlisting site, another very nice one, and one for the Romans.
dionysus. definitely dionysus.

Adonis, of course.

If I follow the descriptions on this site, I'd say Thea: "Under construction."

By any other measure, bacchus, I guess. I'm tempted to go for Gaia, except for the whole incest thing. Eww.

Eris.
posted by getoffmylawn 21 August | 13:49
Huh. I didn't know there was both a Grace and a Muse called Thalia.

Or were they both the same?

Anyways, Calliope.

whole incest thing

Yeah, you can't set too much store by these gods' behavior. The way they carried on!

Me, I like Artemis/Diana because she's the goddess of the forest and the moon and gets to use a bow and shoot silver arrows. Athena's my other pick - in fact, it would be better to be Athena, goddess of wisdom and libraries and defending her city -- she saw more action.

Both of them were virgin goddesses, which isn't really my style. But fortunately you don't have to live like 'em to identify with 'em.

Heh. I'm definitely Athena... In fact I even wrote about it back when I was still doing a little regular blogging, in my post blogging from Olympus (which I can actually see from my house, on a clear day, btw!).

Also, bunnies might weant to try the Which Greek God Are You quizilla quiz.

Sounds about right :P

Well, taz's quiz gives me Nemesis, too. Let's join forces, LF! We'll get warbaby in and we'll be unstoppable.

I was always partial to Hermes, the messenger of the gods. He was one of the few who had free movement through the heavens and earth. He was also the patron of thieves, liars and politicians, which seems like a good mix of company. Bacchus/Dionysus seems like a good bet at first, I mean the parties must be fantastic, but there's that whole "sacrificing the God-King" issue. Getting killed to death in the middle of your birthday party must be a heel of a downer.

Taz's quiz gave me HADES!
posted by getoffmylawn 21 August | 14:43
Well, taz's quiz says I'm most akin to Morpheus, which sounds about right (with maybe a little Eris, god of discord, thrown in...).
posted by Pips 21 August | 14:45
Me too, Pips. Odd, I don't identify with him at all.
posted by Miko 21 August | 14:47
Taz's quiz gave me Athena. Cool.
posted by gaspode 21 August | 14:54
I am Epimetheus, god of incompetence.

APHRODI′TE (Aphroditę)...Some traditions stated that she had sprung from the foam (aphros) of the sea, which had gathered around the mutilated parts of Uranus, that had been thrown into the sea by Kronos after he had unmanned his father.

That's in Hesiod's Theogony. The castrated genitals of Heaven fly over Mother Earth, dripping blood from which the Furies are born. The elder god's unit comes to land in the sea, and from the cum that spills out amidst the thronging waves comes the goddess of love. And grass grew up beneath her slender feet. (Nemesis and Eris are born on the next page, and others.)

Miko: I didn't know too much about Morpheus before, but he seems pretty cool...
posted by Pips 21 August | 15:05
Tough.

Hermes, of course, when I was a bike courier.

Charon when I was a raft guide.

Now, probably Acteon getting torn apart by his own hounds. Maybe, too, Diana.

there's always sterculius..

Apparently, I am Nemesis, too.

Odysseus.

The taz quiz gave me Athena.

What I don't understand is in the "ideal night out" question, one of the choices is "Having sex OR... getting back at your enemy."

Are these two equated in anyone else's minds? I like both, but I've never thought of them as a tandem job.

Oddyseus. How so? Well, I live in Ithaca. I was away from Ithaca for 5 years (not quite as long as King O himself). I've got a girl I met in Ithaca (her name's not Penelope) who has been waiting for me patiently for about the same length of time, rejecting potential suitors and generally making me feel like a king. I'm not so much smart as I am clever (tricky, witty, and of course eloquent). If I had a patron goddess, it'd definitely be Athene. And the whole stubbornly refusing to humble myself before the gods so that I can get on with my life? I got that, too, in spades.

And I'm a fucking killer shot with a bow, though I've not had the opportunity to throw a spear through ten guys.

Oh, and I missed the God quiz the first time. I got a tie between Athena and Morpheus. The latter makes sense, since I'm a lucid dreamer/sleep researcher at present.
posted by Eideteker 21 August | 15:56
I'm definitely all about Artemis.
posted by Specklet 21 August | 15:59
Prometheus.
posted by rainbaby 21 August | 16:25
I want to be Aphrodite but I got Athena on the quiz. Story of my gods damned life.
posted by mygothlaundry 21 August | 16:27
Prometheus.

Do smokers often ask you for a light?

Which is the god of deep frying and pantslessness? 'Cause I'd be that one.

Well, Adonis would have been nice, but I guess things could be worse.
posted by dg 21 August | 17:48
Artemis, except for that whole "virgin goddess" thing. Protector of the young, and of wild things, that fits.
posted by redvixen 21 August | 19:02
According to Taz's link, I am more like Aphrodite. What a compliment!
posted by redvixen 21 August | 19:07
Not sure what I'd be, but Hugh Janus would have to be Uranus.
posted by eekacat 21 August | 19:45
Athena.

Prometheus = Fire Knowledge/Bound. Defiance.

Neat question Miko.
