I thought there were, like, fourteen of those books published. Well, maybe not that many, but I seem to remember my cousins having a whole set of them.

Happiness is Zucchini Cheddar Bread! Somebody gave me a zucchini on Friday (I must be the only gardener anywhere who plants zucchini and doesn't get any) and I made some over the weekend. mmmmmmmm

recipe?

Hmmm, I can't seem to find it online, but I think I remember it all:

Whisk together:
3 cups of flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Add in, and toss to coat with flour:
1 cup shredded zucchini
3/4 cup shredded cheddar
1/4 cup diced onion
1 tbs dried parsley
2 tsp dried dill

In another bowl, mix together:
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 stick of butter, melted

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry, and stir just until all the flour is moistened. Pour batter into greased bread pan and bake at 350 degrees for about an hour.

Happiness is:
- harridan Unit Manager on holiday for three weeks
- Assistant Manager who can see my monitor on holiday for a week
- Anally-Retentive Control Freak Manager phoning in sick today, and he won't be back until Thursday.

Fun tip for the zucchini-challenged. (Apologies if you already know this....)

Squashes and melons have male and female blossoms, right? The male blossom is just a big old flower, and the female blossom is at the end of a miniature squash (or zucchini, or whatever). The reason you don't get any squashes is because the female flowers aren't getting pollinated.

So here's what you do. When your squash is blooming, find a male flower and, um, violate it with a cotton swab, or even your finger. You ought to see some yellow pollen. Now rub the pollen on an open female flower.

Yeah, you're basically having squash sex, but don't feel weird about it.

Best to do this early in the day.
