Photo Friday? What the *bleep* is our theme? Tell you what: I won't be around later to play, so I'll post a couple of photos inside, and you tell me what the theme is, eh?
This is a cool old logo that I love. It's for retsina, and it says (basically), "Taste, Health / Always First" (like, "always #1").

None of the bottles in the carton are actually retsina, though. And I still have no idea what the actual name of the retsina is.

So... What do you think? "Taste", "Logos", "Drinks", "Keys"? "Things found on sidewalks"? "Groovy garbage"?

Drink this and get screwed?

Hey there, mmahaffie!!! Where've you been?

Anyway, bless you! I knew there was something that this reminded me of - there is something quite like this, but with a screw instead of a key, isn't there? Does that ring a bell for anyone?

Wha'? Whatsis about logos?
The. Single. Best. Logo. I've ever seen. Ever.

Bail bonds? The only thing that comes to mind is Chico's Bail Bonds.
...that may not count tho........

No, Zack - my retsina logo. There's something that's very much like this, but with a screw in the cartoon guy's stomach, instead of a key. - I think -

Anyway, it would almost certainly be just coincidence, because my husband remembers this one (Greek) from back when he was a wee lad *cough cough* years ago. Waaaaay before internet, and likely at a time when there wasn't much western exposure in terms of design trends, etc.

Yeah, I know... it's a great logo (the retsina one)... I just noticed that no one had chosen a "photo friday" theme, and was trying to start something, riffing off of one your suggestions. :)

sorry, darling - I thought you were answering "bail bonds" to my question "there is something quite like this, but with a screw instead of a key, isn't there?" Like, I thought you thought I was asking specifically about a bail-bonds related logo with a screw in the tummy. D'oh!

About the riffing - I'm like "Oh, yes! Yes! Woohoo! Yay!" Riffing on this Photo Friday would be extra-excellent. Logo riffing would be particularly loverly!

Hey, np taz. :)) I should be asleep, but the wine's keeping me up past any sense of coherency. heh.
posted by Zack_Replica 18 August | 06:38
yay, wine! I will shortly be past the point of coherency meself, if all goes well (partybound). KISS!

If we're going logos, the only thing on my desk at work with a logo I'd endorse is my favorite coffee cup:

And if we go with drinks, hey look-there's coffee in it.

Actually, I just noticed one of my favorite logos on the bulletin board in front of me. I'm a sucker for a good parody logo, and the Fluid's Ford logo is one of my faves.

Hopefully we can still pull off a real Photo Friday theme. I finally haave a digital camera and for once I remembered to bring the download cable with to the office.

SoBe tea had funny bits under their caps for a while.

Then some ad person (paging Dabitch!!) got carried away.

Maybe it was okay in California, but in midwestern ol' Ohio bottles of SoBe immediately went on sale for next to nothing to clear them off the grocery store shelves.

Apparently, today's theme is signs and logos.

What I want to know is, what happened to the Alice in Wonderland theme? And what happened to Humptse?

Hey, cmonkey, "Tyus Edney is most known in the United States for his late game heroics in the 1995 NCAA Basketball Tournament. UCLA had played well in the 1994-1995 season, earning a number one seed in the West Region of the tournament as well as the top ranking in the national polls. UCLA was favored in their second round match against 8th seeded University of Missouri - Columbia, but with just 4.8 seconds remaining, the Tigers grabbed a one point advantage 74-73. UCLA Head Coach Jim Harrick called a timeout. He decided to call on the team's MVP, 5'10", 152 pound Tyus Edney.

Cameron Dollar inbounded the ball to Edney who took off up the left sideline. As Edney moved up the floor, the Missouri defenders all appeared fearful of fouling him, which might have allowed him to win the game at the free throw line. Though they moved into his path, they then took great care to stand still, not touch him and not reach for the ball. This allowed Edney to weave around each defender fairly easily and then continue advancing down the court. The defenders may have felt that with such weaving, Edney would not have time to get all the way to their basket, but if so, they underestimated his speed. Edney did in fact make it all the way to the Missouri goal and laid the ball up at the last possible moment. The ball hit the backboard and fell through the hoop as time expired, giving UCLA a 75-74 victory. Madness ensued, and four consecutive wins later, UCLA was crowned national champions. Edney's heroics are considered in the same vein as Danny Ainge in 1981 and Bryce Drew in 1998."

Now, why his name would be stenciled on an abandoned street, I do not know.

I was watching with my friends in the dorms when it happened. You could've killed us dead. The high-rise dorms back then held five or six thousand students (they hold more now!), and we were all screaming. It was great.

I think what you're thinking of is the classic workplace cartoon: "Work hard and you shall be rewarded," which is illustrated with a picture of a little man with a giant screw in his midsection. Here is a book about office folklore, with the cartoon on its cover.

Daniel, it looks like everyone wants some kind of notice for the Alice theme.

which sucks because if youall decide to do it next week, well... I won't be here. I'm going to be in Crested Butte for six days.

here's mine, lame and cliche, but o-so-wonderful:
