I still miss A Common Reader. Can anybody recommend some good book catalogs?
Have you tried bookwire?

You can always find something interesting at Gutenberg.

It's no Common Reader, but I'm always happy when the Daedalus Books catalog arrives, frequently, on its pulpy newsprint.

Daedalus is a remainder company, but the books they deal in are often interesting. They sell a lot of academic remainders, editions of classics, and oddball reference titles. For very cheap! And they also sell CDs, many of which are good collection-builders for jazz, classical, or blues/roots fans.

It's not peddlin' pubs, but . . . how 'bout the each-page-is-a-novelette quarterly goodness that is the J. Peterman catalog?

Hi Janet,

Try Bas Bleu. While not as good as A Common Reader(I miss it too) Bas Bleu does have nice write ups about each book and you can submit write ups yourself. The one thing that reminds me of A Common Reader is Bas Bleu's personal touch. You can tell they must read the books. The catalog comes regularly in the mail.
