Wow! These are great. I particularly liked the penultimate photo (Tom). Crop a little off the top and right and that is a masterpiece mostly because of Tom. The whole set is great.
That first photo of the Confederate monument? There is a very historic black church in view behind it. The congregation was founded in 1796 I think. The building dates from the 1800's, and the original pastor's grave is actually inside. Seen it with my own eyes.
BTW just a couple of days ago somebody or bodies went in that cemetary and others nearby and knocked over and broke a bunch of really old irreplaceable monuments. I don't know if that was one or not.
I was in Fayetteville last Saturday, the 12th I think. I didn't notice any vandalism. There is a newer part of that cemetery across the road, maybe that's where the vandalism was.
I noticed that was an AME church across the road, didn't know it was that old.
I live in NC. There's a book of old photos from our county and in one my grandfather and his sisters are sitting in front of their one room school with their classmates. So sweet to see them young :)
