I may be the only one to say this, but I think this animal is beautiful. I feel sadness when I look at his face; not dread or terror. It strikes me as a lonely end to a lonely animal. Sad.
It's the mainline quaker/catholic liberation theology liberal in me, pups, sympathy for all the sinners, hasn't quite been ground out of me by the whirling horrors of the real world, at least not for dog-things in Maine. If that thing was after my pets or my livestock I'd give it both barrels but I'd surely tip a glass and shed a tear in its honor after the shoveling was done.
I work as a wildlife Photographer in the area where this beast was found and we have crossed paths several times. It was a ferril dog with bad breath, that was only interested in a free lunch. The dog was aproachable but aprihensive as was I, but i did manage to feed it a piece of my sandwich. Some morron kicked it out of the house and it has had to fight like hell to survive. The real story is about animal abandonment
The picture is of a dog that suffered head tramma when hit by a speeding car. It baked in the sun for 4 days and got pecked on by a bunch of local vultures. That is when a curious neighbor went to see what all the ruckuss was about, and got some great photos.
