When you're temporarily disabled, people treat you like you're 12. [More:]So I'm walking, ever so slowly on my robocast, back from the ladies' room, and I pass the information desk, and this woman looks at me and says in a gooey voice, "Aaand what did you do to your-self?"

At first I thought maybe it was somebody who works in the building whom I'd met and forgotten and who was just asking about me in an aquaintance-type way, but no, she was a Total Stranger. So I said, "cancer," and kept walking.

No, I didn't really. But I wanted to.
You shoulda said "I hurt it kicking a stupid in the ass."

When I was in my 20s I used to do some video work for the Special Olympics, taping events and editing together highlights and such.

I always got a Special Olympics t-shirt to wear at the events, and you can just imagine how people would talk to me when I wore those shirts around town.

My sister was visitng me recently, and had badly sprained her ankle. When we rented her a wheelchair, my mother and I spend the whole day leaning over her and saying in an extra-loud voice: "How are we feeeeeling? Do we want some apple juice? We like apple juice, yes we dooooo."

She would have throttled us, if she could have caught us.

Damn, casts look like this, now? I last broke something 30 years ago and got plaster.

I had plaster for a month (see here), but then I got this thing so I can walk. Gotta wear it for another couple of weeks.
