"Lawyers, Guns and Money" by Warren Zevon. Always appropriate. Except for my son, who has Devo & "Beautiful World" and my hyperactive friend: she gets "I Wanna Be Sedated." ;-)

I hate - HATE HATE HATE - musical ringtones. I should have included them on my list of things I'm sick of last week. I think the reason I hate them so is that for about six months, one of my co-workers had a snippet of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" as his ringtone, and it took a suggestion from the boss to make him lose it. So I have decreed: people SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE THE CHOICE TO USE INAPPROPRIATE MUSIC ON THEIR CELLPHONES. That is all.

My phone is so old I practically have to turn a crank to get a dial tone, much less be able to download ringtones.

You have not heard annoying ring tones if you don't have pre-teens about. Agghhh.

Mine plays "Strict Machine" by Goldfrapp for incoming calls and "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley for voicemail (when I don't have it on vibrate, which is 90% of the time - I hate when it rings while I am at work).

Mine's a MIDI version of Lil' Kim's "The Jump Off", which you'll never ever be able to make me change. It's awesome.

i hate and love musical ringtones, my default ring is the addams family theme, and special folk have special ringers so i know who is calling (when i'm at home, when i'm out and about the sucker is usually on vibrate).

my mother sets off the panic alarm sound...most helpful.

Y'all are going to hate me but I have different ringtones set for different people. So I know who is calling me. If it's the default ringy-dingy it means I don't know who is on the other end and it's likely I'm not going to pick it up.

Examples:
My brother - Pinky and the Brain theme
My friend Ben - The Muppets theme
My friend Sara - Alias Theme
My ex-ish boyperson - Tubular Bells
Different ex-ish boyperson - Scooby Doo theme

I think they are all polyphonic and all sound vaguely of bad background midis circa 1995.

I can either buy them for $$$$ (never) or I can email one to myself but I get charged a fortune to download something, so I have never bothered. So just the normal ring.

I have a cheapie older cell (no flip! no camera! no polyphonics!) so I have a MIDI version of "Milkshake". My friend thinks it's incredibly stupid, so of course I keep it.

I've got a little snippet of Simpsons sound--Lisa plays a few seconds of dissonant saxophone, then Homer says 'Now you're swingin', honey!' My phone's usually on vibrate or silent, though.

Mine is currently the theme to the Alfred Hitchcock show. Past ringtones have included the theme to Super Mario Bros. and the Legend of Zelda.

Mine 'just rings' except for two special callers, one who gets the intro to Ana Ng and one who gets "Phone is ringing, oh my god" from that Beastie Boys song.

My phone has been on silent since the day I got it, so I don't even remember what the ringer sounds like. But the intro to Ana Ng gets my vote for the coolest ringtone ever. And I though "Trans Europe Express" was going to be hard to top when I started reading this.

Worse ringtone I've ever heard : a screaming baby. And the phone was turned up very loud. And it wasn't a baby's cry, it was a shrill, hoarse scream that was piercing.

Mine rings. Once NPR re-broadcast an old interview with Yitzhak Rabin and during the interview a phone started ringing. "What bozo didn't turn off the phone in the room?" I thought. Turned out it was my cel phone.

I hate the ring that sounds very blown-out and artificial. I think it comes on LG phones.

Right now I have the Futurama theme, but I also use the phone-ringing sound.

I don't mind ringtones mostly (though I will probably mock the person's taste) but when a person is sitting on the El or in line somewhere and is going through them all to pick a new one... I want to punch them in the face.
