15 August 2006

Update I am not getting the operation until they figure out what is wrong with my blood.[More:]evidently it doesn't clot properly, which is odd, seeing as it clots fine if i get a cut or a scrape. So I am up in the air for a bit on that count.
also, there are Political Shenanigans going on. I am going to eat them with toast!
Oh no! What are the Political Shenanigans?

OMG! I've been following that Sheridan case closely. How are you involved in it?

I'm in the SSP, jan, on the pro-Sheridan side of things.

*ducks*

feel free to email me anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Sorry to hear about the delay, BtGoG... I'm sure you're ready to get this show on the road! :)

Grr. I'm sure the wait is annoying.

My wife (and sister-in-law) have had problems with cysts and also have the MTHFR blood clotting mutation. I'm not sure of the relation between the two, if any, but you should definately find out if MTHFR applies to you if you ever considering having a baby. I think it's prevalant in Jewish women.

We were thinking of you yesterday.

btgog, something similar happened to me about a year-and-a-half ago when I had jaw surgery (except they didn't discover it till I was already in surgery and they couldn't control my bleeding -- I'll spare you the scary details). I'd never had any problems with bleeding before when I got a cut or scrape, and had even had prior surgeries without incident (or so I thought: as it turned out, my sister recalled that when I had my tonsils out at age 7, the doctors said I bled a lot). I did always bruise very easily, though.

In any case, it turned out that I have mild hemophilia (I'm slightly deficient in both Factor VIII and Factor XI), which had just gone undiagnosed all that time because it had never caused a major problem before. Now that they know, if I ever have surgery again, they can give me a supplemental clotting factor. So perhaps this is similar to what they'll find for you. I know that being told there's a problem with your blood can be a bit unsettling, but given that you've not had a bleeding problem before, it could turn out to be something that's not too difficult to control once they've determined exactly what it is. (And of course, much better for them to find this now rather than when you're in the middle of surgery!)

Good luck and keep us posted.
