Go Mets! Friday Night Lights here we come! [More:]

I just purchased Mets tickets for jon and me for Friday night. They're playin' the Rockies. Can't wait! Haven't been to a Mets game in many, many years (I think I was fourteen... yikes!). One of my fondest memories is the '86 Mets victory. I sense another World Series at long, long last (knocks on wooden head not to jinx it). We simply must catch a game or two this season... stadium's right down the street (well, sort of), for jimminee's sake...

Ahhh, I can taste my dog and watery brew now...
After last night's game let's keep our fingers crossed.

Careful crossing the buns, you might sprain your asshole.

The best part of going to a Mets game in 2006 is 3 fold:

1) When a Met hits a homerun that fucked up old apple struggles out of the big top hat and it's all wrinkled and dried out, just like a real apple would be after 20 years.

2) Lastings Millage (unless they sent him back down to the minors), What a great baseball name, Lastings Millage! He wears his socks pulled up mad high too.

3) When you get a hotdog there is the machine where you turn the crank and raw diced onions come out! A raw diced onion machine, HUMANITY WINS!

The game I went to we were up in the nosebleeds and people were SO FUNNY, so cranky and pissy New York, loved it. "ASS----HOLE, AAAAAASSSS-HOLE!"

Might as well ring me after the game. I'll be at home "installing" my new bedroom AND I only live 10 minutes away.
I'd go too,but...well...you know how it is..

"LET'S GO YAN-KEES!"
(clap...clap...clap-clap-clap)

More spirits at my crib after the New York Metropolitans lose yes? LOL.

Bummer, gaspode... if not the Mets, the O's...

Yankees?? YANKEES??? Well, we'll forgive ya, JF (if ya let us jump on your new bed...)

on preview: Great pic, love! : )

Aqui en Nueva York, los Yankees desde El Bronx son mejores!

Joe you are an excellent human being and a hero of the revolution but I'd rather give Dick Cheney a long slow mineral oil handjob on national television than root for the Yanks, that's just me though, just the kind of mick I am. The janks are the team of world oppression, FACT! Bearing in mind that I like teams that go about 20 years between world series wins.
posted by Divine_Wino 15 August | 14:51
You can try to jump on it, but apparently a glass of wine won't even budge if you do. lol

No worries, Gaspode. Os are AL, Mets are NL. If I can root for both (yes, deep down in my withered carcass the ghost of Ken Singleton still whispers sweet nothings to my Angelos-ravaged soul), so can you!

GO NEW ZEALAND!
posted by Hugh Janus 15 August | 14:53
Sorry D.W...I just love 'em. I have since I was a kid and my ENTIRE family rooted for the those Flushing Boys at Shea.

I can't shake it man.

Good news is..I actually like the Mets. Great team story. Superb '69 and '86 talent. And 20 years later
they're back to threaten.

But still....

LET'S GO TEAM OF WORLD OPPRESSION!!!!!

Whoo Hoo!!!

I rooted for the yanks when Reggie Jackson played for them, because come on, fucking Reggie Jackson and I will always admire the Yankee fan that smuggled a bow and arrow into the stadium and managed to get off a shot at Dave "I am truly sorry that a fowl of Canada is no longer with us" Winfield, that's dedication.

I used to hate the Yankees and their fans. Then I moved to New York, and I realized I hate Yankees fans who live outside of New York and have never even been to the Bronx. These are the sort of people who live in Maryland, for example, and root for the Cowboys, because they like Roger Staubach. I mean, when you live in an area that has its own team, it's not okay, just because you idolize Reggie Jackson, to root for the Yankees. We all idolize Reggie, and we idolized him when he played for the Orioles, too. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot shrink from the cause of their locality and root for the Yanks because, get this: They Don't Like Baseball At All. But for some reason they feel compelled to fake it, and the Yankees are the team they choose. It's okay to be that way, I guess. I would rather be dead.

We've been pulling for the Mets all summer! I like 'em. Sorry Yankees, D_W nailed it with the 20 year gaposis. Wish we could go, mrs chewy loves dogs. Have to settle for the Durham Bulls. *sigh*

Actually, I do root for the Mets, Hugh (for the very reason you state, given that they are NL, I'm down with them). I've been to 3 or 4 Mets games this year already. But the O's will always be my team.

Me too, no matter how I may hate them at any given point, I'll still have my memories of Memorial Stadium...

I went on July 3. A 10=1 loss to the Pirates.

Hot, sweaty, loud but fun.

And I have "meet the mets" stuck in my head, even though the title of that song is the only part of the lyrics I understand. . .

Mistakenly told a guy next to me that I am an LA Dodger fan. . .wrong thing to say.

Ah, Al Bumbry. Thanks for the reminder, HJ. Al was supposed to be the outfielder my Expos got when we sent you Ken Singleton and Mike Torrez for Dave McNally, but our front office got confused and came up with... Rich Coggins. RICH FREAKIN' COGGINS?

Expos forever. Damn it all.

Just for danf:

MEET THE METS,
MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies,
bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball; knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side,
West side,
everybody’d coming down
to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!

Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they’re hollerin’ and cheerin’ and they’re jumpin’ in their seats,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are tru to the orange and blue,
so hurry up and come on down -
‘cause we’ve got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!
Give ‘em a yell!
Give ‘em a hand!
And let ‘em know your rootin’ in the stand!

The stand? Singular? Oy.

Ever year I want to be a Texas Rangers fan

...but they won't let me :-/

I firmly believe, talent aside, that the Mets won in 86 because Greyhound lost the suitcase containing my prized autographed Mookie Wilson jersey.

I don't have another such jersey to help out this year, so your boys are going to have to ask St. Louis for permission to win the NL pennant.

As we say in Vegas, its 6 to 5 and pick 'em.

And next year, I'm not going to entrust my Kerry Wood jersey to Greyhound... I'm going to choke the fscking Goat with it.
