What do you recommend? Please recommend something. Anything goes.
Oxygen. I can't get enough of the stuff.

I highly recommend sitting on a blanket on a sun-dappled foresty hillside, eating gruyere cheese, garlic-stuffed olives, organic grapes, and red pepper hummus. I recommend doing this with someone who will provide scintillating conversation and footrubs, and who will lob a grape across the blanket into your mouth with perfect accuracy.

I tried that this weekend, and it was pretty good. Oh, except I made up the part about footrubs.

Take two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen and mix. Delicious! Especially on a hot Summer day.

I recommend:

sitting out on the deck of the family house, looking at the trees and listening to the birds, with a big galvanized tub of drinks nearby so everyone can help themselves.

mini-frittati, made in muffin tins. So adorable and delicious!

homemade veggie burgers with sliced avocado and tomato on homemade sesame seed buns, and a side of grilled potato wedges.

a mix CD made by my 15-year-old niece, featuring Franz Ferdinand.

sending your SO an unexpected email telling him why he's so fantastic.

sleeping late, with the cat curled against you making throaty little snurfling sounds.

Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves.

Spinach sauteed with garlic and crushed red pepper and olive oil.

Seven Types of Ambiguity by Eliot Perlman. I haven't finished it yet, and my brother (who recommended it to me) said the ending's a bit disappointing, but then again he reads the last page of novels before he buys them, so I would assume that he'd find the ending of any novel disappointing. But I'm really enjoying it.

Also, I'd recommend finding a forest and going for a walk through the woods off the paths. I hadn't ventured off the paths in years, but this weekend I tried it again and had a great time. I'm not sure why I ever stopped doing it, especially since I live close to a few forest preserves.

Oops, bad link. Seven Types of Ambiguity, for real.

Okay, for real:

Do the research yourself. Become conversant with the literature.

Back it up. Archive it online, password protected.

Read the submission guidelines, for goodness sake!

Don't forget your sunscreen. Wear a hat.

Take a sweater, it's chilly.

Pack a snack. (Air travel excepted.)

Floss.

Read the footnotes.

Have a back-up plan.

Tell them you love them.

Do the right thing.

There is a fantastic little restaraunt about a block from here called The Marketplace that has those. Damn they are good. Although I think the syrup might be some sort of concoction of their own. Somewhat like maple syrup but not quite.

I recommend puppies, they are good for mental health. Thing is they can also drive you crazy, but you go through it because they are super-cute loving creatures that only do what comes naturally, and knowing that they grow up to be doggies which are also good for mental health.

Letting someone who loves you know you have demons and that they can't survive a quick run around the block.

Best thing anyone's ever told me, it works, and if that don't do it, eat aged cheeses until you pop.
