Hey there, dno. Online personals are a numbers game. Write a response that would sound decent as a response to most ads, and customize a few details each time you send it, according to things in the person's profile. Send a response to whichever girls look interesting. This is how I met my wife of 6 years.

Post a profile just in case, but don't expect any responses. But you never know.

Also, join OkCupid. I've been really impressed with the quality of people on there. (It's one of those dating or friendship sites, and I've made 4 or 5 high-quality friendships in the last month.)

Welcome, dno. I'm female, and maybe it's just me but multiple spelling and grammatical errors in responses to my online personal turn me right off.

Speaking of which, what does one learn in third grade? I ask because I just received a message in response to my ad from a man who claims to have a Master's in elementary education and teach third grade. The email was full of mistakes! I'm pretty sure we learn sentence construction and subject/verb agreement by third grade, don't we? So, uh, shouldn't the teacher be pretty good at it? Scary.

I've probably made some egregious error in this comment. But hey, I'm not a teacher.

That said, is this a good place to mention that I am up to my ears in lovely, charming, talented and single Japanese girls in their thirties who have been so focused on singing and voice training (not tht J-Pop crap -- I mean classical and opera) and musicianship (violin, flute, organ) that they never went out trolling for guys? Now they come to me -- to ME!! -- and somehow think I can go rustle up a bunch of mates for them.

So give me a heads up if you are headed this way. Ikkyu2, you're looking pretty single there yourself, right? You have to come here and see all the Ikkyu-related places (not to mention "Ikkyu" being just about the finest Kyoto cuisine restaurant in town.
