YouTube Comment Ruined Her Life [WMV video, NSFW language] Poor little bunny. The intertubes can be tough on the thin-skinned sometimes.
It's a bit sad, though, how easy it is these days to become the laughing stock of the whole internet. Why, back when I was an internet noob, if you made a fool out of yourself in an IRC channel (or a mailing list or something like that), you'd just, you know, log off, sulk for a couple of days and then start trolling noobs yourself. But these days, it's Myspace this, Youtube that, and if you do something stupid, people will never let you get over it.
This is what happens when the generation whose parents always wrapped them in padding just to go outside, and never let them play unsupervised, and always raised their self-esteem, grows up and goes out into the real world.
I can't believe that's real. Crying because someone called you a douche? People who call other people douches are uncreative trolls who, for whatever reason, enjoy sounding like that ugly, misogynistic divorced guy in the sales department who gets drunk and bores everyone at the bar with inflated tales of the good old days when he wasn't greasy and spiteful. It reflect far more poorly on the person saying it than it does on the person it's being used to describe.
These amuse me in a very meta way -- I find it fascinating that given the tools at our disposal, so much of what people create is self-referencing our own culture back at us. It's actually pretty hard to maintain a character with this intensity and continuity over a lengthy podcast. Five minutes of staying in character and rambling, without (apparently) a script (or maybe I'm wrong about that).
No, it isn't intrinsically interesting, but it's very interesting in terms of the relationship to the referents.
