Free Online Logo Creator? My wife and I have begun our own business and it would be sweet to have some kind of logo to put on our cards and documents. Surely here is a place online where I can create a simple logo with a graphic for Cebula Historical Consulting? Google does show me sites that do this, but they are crap.
Thye're crap, because making a good logo is an art. Unless you have a very good idea for a very simple logo (essentially a monogram or an initial), and the requisite graphic design skills to make it, consult a professional.

Nevermind--while I was typing my post here my wife created quite an elegant logo in a few minutes. In Microsoft Word! She is a wonder. I will see if I can post it here later.

What is Historical Consulting?

Miko: Basically we write grants. A few years ago Senator Byrd decided that American school kids were learning disgracefully little history (true) and that the reason was too many history teachers named "Coach" (also true) and that he could bribe schools and universities to partner up and teach those teachers some more history (true). It is a funny side business for us to be in, neither of us has ever had a class as a grant writer, but we have been surprisingly successful. And we believe in the program, it really does a lot of good.

Here is the logo my wife came up with. It took her about 15 minutes to create it in Word 'cause she is awesome, them me about two hours to convert that to a .jpg 'cause I'm a doofus:

She gets an A, you get a C but an A for effort!

Nice work! You can start another side business making quick logos for folks!

While the logo is actually surprisingly good for something wipped up in Word, may I critique?
Let's assume I may:

1- The black writing on colored squares makes it hard to read, especially as the squares cut through the letters at random spots.
2- If you ever want to print out cards, ststionary, etc., at a printers you'll be paying for 4 colors (black, and the 3 blues).
3- When you design a logo, you need to think of how it looks at different sizes and reproduction methods: big banner, small business card, greyscaled, all black. Again, the black lettering on dark background will probably be lost in some of these cases.

Now, to top off my fowardness, I'd like to propose a variation of my own. Any further critique is of course welcome. If you don't like it, no worries, take it as an illustration of my comments.

I see your point, especially about the need for the logo to be scalable. Thanks!
