How is "interestingness" determined on Flickr? It seems totally random.
Also: how can I tell if one of my pics gets on the Explore dealie?
Interestingness!
Besides being a five syllable word suitable for tongue twisters, it is also an amazing new Flickr Feature.
There are lots of things that make a photo 'interesting' (or not) in the Flickr. Where the clickthroughs are coming from; who comments on it and when; who marks it as a favorite; its tags and many more things which are constantly changing. Interestingness changes over time, as more and more fantastic photos and stories are added to Flickr.
Wedge did a good job of describing the criteria for getting into "Explore" above. Since I like to take pics of ugly houses and laundromats and such, I'm not usually even in the running. :)
A photo I was in (well, I wasn't "in" it; I was it- just me) was once as high as #459 on the interesting charts. I have no idea what that means, but it makes me feel good.
