I am going to do that annoying thing and write how you didn't get picked for this because your higher power is keeping you free for something bigger and better on the horizon that you just can't see yet.

At least they called rather than form lettered. You must have been this close. Next time. (I've had people call me back 3rd interviews and still send a form letter in the end.)

sciurus, that sucks. I'm waiting on a call today myself. Its with my old company (before the one that I walked away from) and I'm expecting an offer.

Sorry to hear it though. I know it doesn't help but it is their loss.
