Happiness is . . . meeting Dan Piraro of Bizarro at a conference and buying his new book, which he signs and sketches in, including a bunny for MeCha.
Pie surfing! That's so cool.

What did he talk about at the conference?

Very Cool. Dan Piraro is one of my favorite cartoonists.

That being said... has anyone else noticed that Bizarro has been a shadow of its former self ever since Piraro moved to New York City?

Well, he's just generally hilarious, and I think he has done some stand-up even. But naturally he touched on veganism and animal rights, which he's into. And Woodstock, the farm animal sanctuary he and his wife are heavily involved with.

He really is HILARIOUS. If you get a chance to see him, I recommend it. He'll be at the Animal Rights 2006 Conference in DC next week and, I would imagine, at TAFA again in Sept.
I'm so bummed that I'm missing AR this year.

Fuzzy, I think Piraro was much more at odds with his environment in TX. He's more at home in freakish NY, which maybe takes some of the tension out of his stuff. I dunno. I love it.

I think that's exactly right. The ol' 'Conflict Breeds Art' idea. I still love his stuff too, just not as much as I used to. It's like The Simpsons: even when it's not The Best Episode Ever, it's still better than most TV shows-- or in Bizarro's case, most comic strips.
