Ahem. Presenting: "The MeCha thread about iconic redheads."[More:]Same rules as the iconic-blonde-by-decade thread. I'll start with a given:

1940s: Rita Hayworth.
50's: Lucille Ball? (Or whatever the "I Love Lucy" woman's name is)

60s - Raquel Welch

1960s: Ann-Margret.

And wouldn't Raquel Welch fall under the "auburn" category? Heh.

OMG Rita Hayworth

Rita Hayworth yes for the 40s, but I would still like to put in a word for Moira Shearer. Limited movie exposure, but so very red!

1990s: Julianne Moore, just because I knew her brother in grad school.

Moira Shearer! The Red Shoes, yes?
Excellent film, well worth getting the Criterion DVD for.

I was going to say let's give Katharine Hepburn the 30's, as the 40's are sort of locked up, but then what do we do with Judy Garland?

Redhead Pride!!!

Well, for the "noughties", how much more iconic could we get that our own iconomy ;-)

Aw dg....mine's not natural tho ;)

For the 90s - Julia Roberts too.
posted by iconomy 01 August | 08:11
70s - Danny Bonaduce

For the 00s - Marcia Cross? Not that Alyson Hannigan or however you spell it, although jon will put in a good word for her. She's cute but hardly iconic. Maybe in his pants she is, but not anywhere else ;)

And Nicole Kidman for the 90s too....
posted by iconomy 01 August | 08:18
How did I read that as 'Marcia Clark'?
posted by box 01 August | 08:22
I won't ask you for proof of that, iconomy ;-)

Definitely Nicole Kidman for the '90s. I just saw an advertisement for a repeat of the TV mini-series Vietnam that led to me falling in love with her many years ago, before she went all Hollywood, got bitten by the surgery/diet bug and turned into another starlet clone. Unfortunately, it is on cable and I don't have cable at home, so will miss it.

Tina Louise
Bonnie Raitt
Allyson Hannigan

grrr

We have to get Ann-Margret in there, don't we?
posted by taz 01 August | 08:55
Probably no chance of including Tilda Swinton, huh?

Hair color is so emphemeral these days. Is there any "icon" whose original hair color is known? Jane Fonda is not a redhead but in the China Syndrome she was, to nice effect.

But I would have to second Jon, for Alyson.

Oh and Carrot Top. I am pretty sure he is natural.

Ann Margret, yes.

My dad's favorite redhead is Holly Hunter, and he's an expert on Red heads, so I nominate her for '90s.

I'll vote for Tilda Swinton. She has that ice-goddess thing goin' on that makes me swooooon.

I don't believe I know what iconomy looks like. Link, please? I'm not a stalker. Really.

It's all about ICONIC, not cutest or favoritest. So no Tilda or Allyson! No no no no no. This cannot stand.
posted by iconomy 02 August | 11:27
oh god Tilda Swinton makes me swoon too - She could rule the 90s just for her part in Orlando.
