Las Vegas makes it illegal to give food to the homeless [More:] Jesus fucking H, this makes me mad.
"Las Vegas makes it illegal to give food to the homeless"...in parks.

But way to edit for effect. Nice one.

When I read this I wish I was a Shiite demagogue; I could really whip the mob up into a frenzy over this certain proof that America is Satanic.

None of you really has faith unless he desires for his neighbor what he desires for himself.

Speaking of Jesus... Jesus fed the homeless, right?

I guess if The Second Coming happens, ol' J.C. had better watch his step:

"All right, Hippy. Pack up those loaves and fishes. You're through in this town-- you hear me? Through!"

“For 35 years, I represented reputed mobsters and was never afraid to go to court,’’ he said, “and I am not afraid to go to court against the A.C.L.U.’’
- Mayor Goodman

Goodman?????

Mr. Goodman suggested that panhandlers with signs asking for food be sued for “false advertising” because soup kitchens provide free meals.

What kind of fucking asshole is this mayor?!

And mullacc, does it really matter if it's in public or specifically in parks?

that quote would have been more impressive if he'd been going to court AGAINST the reputed mobsters.

As it is, he probably has mobster friends and no morals. Which I guess makes him one with The Way Of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas officials said the ordinance was not aimed at casual handouts from good Samaritans. Instead, they said it would be enforced against people like Ms. Sacco, whose regular offerings, they said, have lured the homeless to parks and have led to complaints by residents about crime, public drunkenness and litter.

The specific park mentioned is near my Dad's neighborhood, I've been going by it for years, (you can see it on google maps by searching for the intersection of Franklin and Maryland parkway 89104). It's a tiny park, that was just a large patch of grass for years, and then they came and gave it a really wonderful makeover, which was really good for this particular older part of town. It's now become a campground, practically. I support Ms. Sacco and her desire to help people, but it's probably the wrong way to do it. This city needs help with this issue, no doubt.

What kind of fucking asshole is this mayor?!

He suggested cutting the thumbs off of taggers to deal with graffitti problem.

He's a lot of bluster, really.

What a fucking asshole. Soup kitchens usually make their patrons listen to a sermon, lasting up to an hour, before they eat, which keeps a lot of homeless people from going to them. But giving food to the homeless has been 'illegal' around the country for many years; I used to work with Food Not Bombs in a couple of different places, and we'd regularly get shut down by the cops for "serving food without a license" or "serving food without a food handler's permit" and the like. But jeez, do you know how much bread goes to waste in the country? It's obscene.

One of Vegas's problems is how many homeless are killed in the summer by the heat. Then, too, are those homeless whose brains have literally been fried by the sun; they look literally like zombies.

The problem with this particular park is its location; an island in the middle of one of Vegas's busiest and fastest streets. Its proximity as well to Bishop Gorman High School and other schools is also a source of conflict.

Vegas's biggest problem is the city does not have the police resources to micromanage that area. The cost of living here is horrendous and attracting public employees with such meager pay is a no-win situation.

Specklet: Yeah, it'd be worse if it was "in public" than just "in parks." As of yet, the ban only applies to parks, where I think the city has a reasonable justification for regulation (not that this particular regulation is reasonable). By leaving off the last two words of the headline, it makes it appear that the lawmakers are more evil and more powerful than they may actually be.
