The four eyed man (and woman) was used in a lot of novelties. Bottle openers, salt and pepper shakers, etc.

The original novelty was a sculpted head that held a scraper used to level the foam of a draught beer. One side was normal, the other had four eyes. The idea was that if a bar patron overstayed, the bar tender would secretly turn it around to the four eyed version, and the patron would go "whoa!! I've had enough!" and go home.
