If there's a book out there with my username on it, I'll eat my office chair.

And the author of the "Mud Puppy" book has got to be using a pseudonym.
posted by deadcowdan 25 July | 06:43
Awww. Thanks, someone remembered my book. Which I wasn't named after. My grandmother had some kind of dream or intuition or something and told my Mom she had to name me Shane. Hey, it's a weird family. Ol' "Gam" could always tell the sex of a baby before it was born, too.

sciurus, did you read the book Sciurus: The Story of a Gray Squirrel when you were a a kid?

deadcowdan: me too

This is clearly NOT about me.

The funniest "miss" I got was the search for mygothlaundry.

When I search for iconomy the first return is Fucked Company.

The best I can do with my own username is a stage-play (that I don't know was ever printed as an individual book) written by Charles Lamb (the essayist, and friend of Coleridge & Mary Shelley) entitled ‘Mr. H----’ which was ‘a farce in two acts.’ It was also a flop—the Theatrical Examiner wrote of it:

“Mr. H----, thou wert DAMNED. Bright shone the morning on the play-bills that announced thy appearance, and the streets were filled with the buzz of persons asking one another if they would go to see Mr. H----, and answering that they would certainly; but before night the gaiety, not of the author, but of his friends and the town, was eclipsed, for thou wert DAMNED! Hadst thou been anonymous, thou haply mightst have lived. But thou didst come to an untimely end for thy tricks, and for want of a better name to pass them off——."

My original internet name was given to me by a co-worker. I love nothing more than to complain, and she says to me "well, you're just the grumblebunny aren't you?" Yes, thank you. Yes, I am.

It isn't my metachat name (although I wish I had used it here), it is from a book.

Creepy!

The mygothlaundry one is good. . .I got a miss on anyone else I tried, and I don't have time to play right now. . .

On an unrelated note, this weekend I enjoyed a beer from the Central Waters Brewing Company called Mudpuppy Porter. It was yummy, too.

*snicker*

She is a sorceress--indescribably beautiful, overpoweringly sensual--who possesess incomprehensible powers. She is also a murderess who plans to use her power to kill Nicholas Linnear, the hero of THE NINJA.

-Dustjacket blurb from Eric Lustbader's The Miko.

Well...brujita and ninyabruja come from Francesca Lia Block's Witch Baby.

I know gaspode comes from a Terry Pratchett book (only because gaspode herself told me so!). Also, my username does come from the book(s, plural- there are three volumes) misteraitch linked above.

posted by BoringPostcards 25 July | 10:07
Whoah, cool, thanks for finding that!
posted by matildaben 25 July | 10:16
Yup:

Gaspode is a small terrier-like dog featured in seven of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. He possesses human-level intelligence and the ability to speak, as well as an extensive collection of diseases (including 'Licky end' which is only found in pregnant sheep). However, since everyone knows that dogs can't speak, people tend to interpret his speech as their own personal thoughts, a tendency which Gaspode regularly uses to wrangle food from passers by.

Sweet! That book is so me - hell, I even have a bastard son! (He's still a bastard even though I did eventually marry his dad, right?)

Huh. No books with my name, but I did discover that Christopher Null uses me as a demonstration of how there aren't any obvious film critic website names available anymore.

Not the first match, but certainly the coolest.
