Happiness is a Saturday... 7/22/06 →[More:]
Sooooo, what are you happy for today? It's Saturday, so I suppose that is enough.
DIGRESSION!:
This entry ("An 'A' on your spelling test") bugs me a bit. Sure, we all wanted to "fulfill our expectations" and make the parents happy, but let's face it: School set us up like a bunch of damn hurdlers in a sprint, as if we're all the same and all have the same goals.
But school was there FOR US, to help us find our own PERSONAL strengths AND interests and paths in life, not to treat us as if we're all the same runners in a ridiculous race for an unnamed and probably worthless prize.
SO, it felt good getting an 'A' on a test. But did we ever realize that school was there to serve us, and that we were not there to fulfill the expectations of school and feel as if our worthiness was in question if we did not?
How do you feel about it all, now that it is long past? What effect did it have on you?
Are you going to prepare your children for the stress they may (unnecessarilly) face in the "educational" system?
(Full disclosure: I'm usually qwuite a good spelleer
;-)
Perhaps I shouldn't bother.
I'm also drubk.)
