Wow, I need to keep up with the news more.
Brownouts?
We lost power in Buffalo, briefly, a couple days ago. I was at work at the time, and our phones don't even work without electricity. You could hear swearing from every corner of the building, in more languages than I could count. I never knew we had such an international workforce.
No official word on when it'll be totally back, but I've heard rumors of as late as Sunday.
And yea, I do have "minimal power"- enough to turn on a light bulb or two. I'm mad they even call that minimal power- "minimal" to me implies all the necessary appliances (the fridge! the hot water heater!) work. Mine don't.
I haven't had any power since Tues night. Also, a huge tree on our property sheared off during the storm and smashed our outside lights and our roof and some shutters and all of our gutters and a piece of it broke off and punctured our roof like a huge wooden spear and broke through our ceiling and there was a bunch of water damage and all of our food went bad and we couldn't sleep Tuesday night or last night because it was too hot and um...we have no power.
Someone posted on Gothamist that Con-Edison is saying NEXT WEEK SOMETIME MAYBE for full restoration of power. WTF? What are we supposed to do until then???
I love it when the power goes out. You can see the stars and light a fire in the backyard and drink warm beer and tell stories. Just like people did in the 1950s, before electricity came along.
cmonkey, that's fun for about 3 hours. But it's been over 24 hours for me, and several days for people I know, and it's not fun anymore. I drank warm OJ this morning. I WANT MY POWER BACK!!!!
