Q about Apple Education discount: are the student and teacher discounts different or the same? If diff, which is better? Thank you muchly.
I just got my ipod. . .I had gone to the U of Oregon bookstore, which had advertised discounts. .it turned out that I would have had to be associated with U of O. . .I wasn't. . .then the guy asked if I had a kid going there. . no again.
So I went over to the Apple Store here, prepared to pay full price, and mentioned that I am a school district employee. They made me go get my ID badge but then gave me the discount.
I think that you just have to be in an educational system somehow and prove it.
danf, yes, that's right. But I'm curious whether faculty and teachers and students get different discounts *from each other* or if they're all the same discount.
I just called the Apple store near me and they said that teachers and students do get different discounts, but that each computer has a different amount deducted, so they can't give hard numbers. The 'Apple Genius' (I can't believe they call them that - hahaaaaha) told me that for some models the teacher disc is higher and for some models, the student disc is. He added to go to apple.com and click on education and then shop online and give them your edu info and the amt deducted is given on the screen, saying to just cancel the transaction after you see what the discount is.
Hmm. Okay, I'll see what I can figure out. I have a student number and am buying a new laptop. A teacher-friend wants an iPod at the same time. Was just curious whether I should bug her for her faculty ID as she's hella busy all the time and was just wanting to get it over with.
If you buy an Apple Student Developer membership you get a ~25% discount (I believe). With a computer more than $2000 or so, the numbers might be worth consideration, even with the cost of membership.
