What they don't show you is the next twenty panels where the newly free society grows larger, more industrialised and after a renaissance, some specialisation and a couple of world wars ends back at panel one.

Thus reinforcing the hopelessness of modern life and the circulating drudgery of all aspects of humanity be they based on a microscopic or macroscopic viewpoint.
