Come celebrate an UnMarriage! [More:]

So my best friend Jennifer got UnMarried a couple weeks ago. The celebration was held in the lovely gardens where the original wedding took place. Attending was myself and our other best friend Tom.
Are there pics of the unbachelor party, too?

And, uh, ignore me3dia's premature post below...

What a nice idea, you know, when that needs to happen.

we know. Everyone had to excuse themselves. They'll be back in 10 minutes.

It truly was gorgeous and lovely and sweet. We both wore our wedding dresses, I made the wreaths for our hair. Tom considers himself to be divorced by association.

GRRRRRR. Y'all know what I meant.

Heeee! That's okay, me3dia, baby. I was just surprised that it was posted before I could even finish arranging the order of the set! Heh.

I'm confused. What exactly is an UnMarriage?
posted by eamondaly 06 July | 15:42
I don't get it either. But I love the dresses!

This is a really fun and enjoyable set to wander through, Specklet, thanks!

Is an unmarriage the same thing as a divorce? She got her divorce papers signed and you and Tom helped her celebrate, is that right?

I can't believe how beautiful some of these photographs are. The sunlight is heavenly. What a perfect day.

What kind of camera?

An unmarriage is when you're divorced but need a ceremony and celebration for closure. We'd been planning to have one for Jennifer for almost two years.

She said that her unwedding day was as beautiful and as meaningful as her wedding day had been... and much less stressful.

It really was the most gorgeous day. We had an incredibly lovely time.

Incidentally, it was not Tom she was married to.

Oh and who did the photo where the background's been greyscaled? How they did that??? Did they use a wacom? I mean, I know technically how you do it, but I can never get the edges of the parts that remain color to stay so clean and sharp.
posted by iconomy 06 July | 15:51
ico, it's a feature on Tom's camera. You sample a color, then the camera makes all but that color black and white. In that photo he had sampled her hair; it's just that she has such beautiful coloring that her hair and eyes and lips all match!

Here's another example.

Nice pics.

And boy, those "me" and "jennifer" tags sure come in handy.
posted by mudpuppie 06 July | 15:58
Yeah, it's interesting to note that the pictures where she and I are kissing get a lot more views than other photographs...
posted by Specklet 06 July | 16:01
That's really a beautiful set of pics. I wish I had a reason to get all dressed up and have people take pictures of me.
posted by TrishaLynn 06 July | 16:05
No, I meant....

Oh, never mind.
posted by mudpuppie 06 July | 16:07
These are such sweet photos! Good for you, Jennifer!

What I meant was, in the universe of Flickr, it's kind of funny to tag photos with "me" or "jennifer," because those tags don't really refine a search very much. Not like, say, "New York City."

But then I looked at the jennifer tag. And most of the pictures are of Jennifer. That Jennifer.

Jennifer gets around.

That feature kicks ass. And so does the photo of you in the galoshes! I wish my camera did that. You know what, it probably does. One day I will RTFM!

That's incredibly beautiful. Everything. *sniff* Shush... I just have something in my eye.

Gorgeous pics, which had me confused, I thought there'd been a girl-girl wedding, but now I understand and I think it's a great idea to have an unmarriage celebration. You both look absolutely beautiful. Tom is very cute This picture is glorious.

awesome day out, all decked out. :) You all look great.

Thanks for all the compliments, woo!

Ahhh, yes. (I'll admit, though, I was being a leettle deliberatley obtuse.) Well, I tagged those as such for searches whilst in my pages.

Jan, he totally is. We were together for a long time, but now are just best friends. I still get a pang every once in a while, though, when I think about how adorable he is!

I've never been to an unmarriage, but I have been to a couple divorce receptions.
I was planning on having one myself, actually. Since, well, any excuse for a big party for all my friends.

The unmarriage seems a lot more meaningful and a lot less drunken.

Those pictures are just amazing.

So is she a born-again virgin, now?
Well, she was... but me and Tom took care of that in short order!

Great - Now I'm obsessed with the idea of an un-Hen Party.

L Plates - An English hen party tradition

*thanks ethylene for pat; stops*
posted by seanyboy 06 July | 17:20
What does it mean?
posted by ethylene 06 July | 17:21
Actually, you need a bit more info. "L" means learner. You have to wear "L" plates when you're taking driving lessons. For some obscure reason, the "L" plate has transferred to brides to be. Don't ask me why. I didn't make the rules.

The English --> American translation course continues. And it's still as confusing as ever.
posted by seanyboy 06 July | 17:24
Ah, so it's to mean one's getting their permit.
There was no way that was translating.

they just said horny hens and I was thinking, "Loose?" "last chance?" "Loser?"

When we fully bridge the slang gap we can get nonMarried as a sign of unification.

i was planning to marry myself so I could have a huge ostentatious party, and get registered gifts.
Meddling teenagers always seem to foil my plans.
posted by ethylene 06 July | 17:29
may i say one thing?

*growl*

also, nice pics :) at first i thought it was like an unbirthday but, now i get it. fun stuff.
posted by freudianslipper 06 July | 19:10
Wow. That's enough to make me want to get divorced. That and the fact that all the appliances we got for our wedding are wearing out after ten years. I need an unwedding and a rewedding...more parties and free stuff.
