Thanks to essexjan. In the Euro cake competition I (Israel) came in third with a recipe recommended by e/j. I cooked it too long. A good taste, but it crumbled. B- (Isle of man) came in second with a victoria sponge cake, and G- (Ukraine) won with her spicy parrot cake. But, I still came third. Thanks e/j.
Okay, "parrot cake" is just wrong.

But congrats on 3rd place.

So, what's the background on this cake competition? What's in the parrot cake? Is it light as a feather?

The parrot cake was a pirate themed rum soaked vegan sultana affair.

The competition is in its third year now. The format is exactly the same as the Eurovision song contest. Except with cakes. It was a small field this year. We've had 20 cakes in the past, but we only had 8 or so this year.

Everyone who comes can vote. So, you don't need to have made a cake to vote. The voting takes the Eurovision "Hello France!... Can we have your votes please..." format. Points are awarded publically (in French and English), and there is much good hearted accusations of cheating to be had when friends give each other good marks. (Just like the real thing)

The winner must host the competition at there house the year after they won. (Same as Eurovision)

G- and I invented the competition after boasting that we could each make a cake that was better then the other. The concept started simple, but has since become a bit of a monster.

And who is this? Is this the sun/earth lady? Don't mean to be nosy but us dateless saddos have to live vicariously through the dating lives of others

Congrats, seanyboy!

Any chance you've got the recipe for Parrot Cake?

What an awesome competition! I hope it grows. If there were a EuroCake web site I would have forwarded the link to my friends already.

hm, I guess appearance doesn't count in voting, cuz that ukraine cake is rather ugly.

Things that count in voting:
- Appearance
- Taste
- Texture
- Familial Connections
- Ratio of Sweet to Savory cakes.

e/j - yep.
