Or...NOT. [More:]We just spent an hour watching a slide show about various mergers and acquisitions and how they are progressing (or not) delivered by the urinal talker, who was wearing a purple patterned shirt that made him look like a gay Aztec waiter. The long and short of it is, we still don't know when we're being let go, only that we are. This is a special kind of puragtory. At any rate, that's an hour and a half of my life, I'll never get back.

I. Need. A. Stiff. Drink.
Can you get a pic of the shirt? I gotta see that.

(No offense, I hope, I don't understand why this is it's own thread.)

Well, it includes a drinking invitation, and what the hell.

Hey jon? Remember that snoring noise you heard from the folks who were conferenced in? *grins widely*

Oh, that's an invite? Cool, I'm in.

(btw, it's good news to find out your son has an ear infection when there was reason to believe it was brain trauma.)

(not if you simply want it all to be over already (I'm assuming you were speaking metaphorically))

((Hee, I wasn't ... I was speaking non-sequiturly.))

I'll be leaving DumbQuarters in about 20 minutes. If any of my NYC MeCha pals want to join me in afternoon libations, we'll be here at least for awhile.

Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I wanna go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it went right to my head

Well, guess Vegas is on hold, eh sweets? Bummer 'bout the news (or, non-news, I should say). Nudie beach in jersey'll have to do...

See ya at Bull's...

(I thought that was you, TL... : ) Sorry we missed ya last night... didn't hear my cell for all the hubbub in the bar, but I got your message just after 7... another time...)

(That's okay; after running around trying to find this girl to sell the plate to, finding her, depositing the cash into the bank, trying to find a different place in the pouring rain, I didn't want a drink [I wanted a nap, so I took the cheap {read: subway/bus} way home.])

RAINBABY:

Who (to you) sings that song?
posted by Divine_Wino 30 June | 11:55
Daddy.

Robert Fuckin' Shaw, that's who.
posted by Hugh Janus 30 June | 12:08
Hey, I'm not Rainbaby! What the....
posted by Hugh Janus 30 June | 12:08
Yeah, Bobby Shaw, Dick Dreyfus, and Roy Scheider.

Is there another well known version?
posted by rainbaby 30 June | 12:11
Not a well known one, but a lyric that a friend sings in a song, I have wandered off the rails I find... Oh well. Thanks.
posted by Divine_Wino 30 June | 12:25
That lyric reminded me of the Proclaimers' "It's Saturday Night", fwiw.

It's Saturday night, I'm feeling on song
I think I'm alright, I know I'm all wrong
The drink that I had three hours ago
Has been joined by fourteen others
In a steady flow

So let me walk straight, don't let me feel pain
I'm gonna scratch cars, with my keys again
cos when I go home and fall on my bed
If it doesn't leave my stomach, It'll split my head.

Is there a reason you aren't just finding another job? You said you are just data entry, didn't you? Are you hoping for a severance package?

They just did a "deadwood" layoff where I work this week. I hate that stuff. I'm not in danger, not unless things go terribly, terribly badly (which I don't anticipate).

I *have* been laid off four times, though, so I really don't like to hear talk, or even rumors, of that kind of stuff.

In your situation it must really suck. Are you looking for something else, or just waiting for the hammer?
