26 June 2006

It's Official [More:]I had my ophthalmologist appointment today and what I suspected is true - I have diabetic retinopathy.

The eye doc has referred me to a specialist and the appointment is at the end of July. The doc is pretty sure that there will be laser surgery involved but we won't know for sure until the next appointment.

I'm going to go cry now. Just kidding. Sort of.
Aw, deborah. I'm so sorry. That sucks.

I'm sorry to hear that, deborah! If it's any consulation, a friend of mine had surgery on her retinas (also diabetic related) and did very well.

So sorry to hear about that, deborah... you're in my thoughts...

I'm sorry to hear it, sweetie! Just from reading the wiki article, it sounds like surgery will most likely take care of it, which is great.

In fact, even people with advanced retinopathy have a 90 percent chance of keeping their vision when they get treatment before the retina is severely damaged.

Blessings to you.

Good luck to you, deborah.

FWIW, I had my eyes lasered last summer and they've been awesome ever since but all I had was near sight and an astigmatism.

I'm really sorry to hear that! (not that anyone is thrilled about it) The best of luck to you! Please take the best of care!

Don't get discouraged, deborah... it sucks it had to happen at all, but you'll get through it! Hang in there! :)

I can only echo what others have said and tell you that I have heard good things about the surgery and I wish you well.

I'm mentally preparing for the worst and hoping for the best and having a quiet freak-out while I do so. From what I've read it should be fine and this panicking will all be for naught. Going blind has always been a huge fear of mine.

Thanks so very, very much for your support and well wishes. I wuv you bunnies!

Here's hoping for the best, Deborah. May all the worry be for naught.

Going blind has always been a huge fear of mine.

Mine too - I was hit in the face by a skyrocket when I was about 10 and spent two days unable to open my eyes - it was absolutely the worst time of my life.

It sounds like you have done the right thing and taken action early, though, so I am sure you will be fine.

I don't know what that all means, but it sounds scary :( I hope it goes well.

Best wishes! I hope that the surgery goes well.

Both my parents had macular degeneration and I often think about the likelihood of my eventually going blind.

Now I try to remember to always wear sunglasses when I go out. But, man, it makes riding my bike so much harder for the way they obscure everything in shadow.

You have my best wishes as well. Good luck.

Y'all really are the bestest bunnies!

My eyes were fine at last year's appointment and I started noticing a problem this last March. I'm hopeful that it's been caught in time and the surgery will be successful.
