Beggars Banquet [More:]
"(The title) comes from a cat called Christopher Gibbs. Mick laid it on me but it was Christopher who arrived at that mixture. Although we had all been throwing around Tramps' Mushup or something. On the same idea. We wanted to do the picture. That idea came first, the beggars thing came first... Mick was very much into that tattered minstrel bit then." -- Keith Richards, 1971
ahhhh...Marianne Faithfull..she was as cool as cool could get in the swingin' 60's eh?

hey, didn't she end up sounding a bit like Louise Jefferson later on in life?

Somehow Tramps Mushup doesn't quite do it, really.

"The Stones have unleased their rawest, ludest, most arrogant, most savage record yet. And it's beautiful." -- Carl Bernstein, Chicago Sun Times, January 1969

I'm not familiar with the term "ludest," but the mellow image it plants in my mind is at odds with the rest of the description.

thanks for this Hugh! I downloaded the album and am looking forward to hearing it.

Neat. Thanks HJ. But then I'm on record as believing Beggars Banquet is the best Stones album ever.

Maybe it's a mix of "loudest" and "lewdest"?

They must have meant 'lewdest' and misspelled it.

Mick was very much into that tattered minstrel bit then

Then?!?

Great link Hugh baby. I love this record, although I have to admit to bring one of those people that mojohand mentions - I love Exile. Yes, it's uneven, but when it's good, it's fucking amazing (in my opinion at least).

Beggars Banquet is a gem too though.

I love 'em both. Rolling Stones for eiver and eiver.

richat, I'm with you. Exile is the best.
