The Coney Island Mermaid Parade is this Saturday, and I'll be there; will you join me?→[More:]
I won't be dressing up and marching, but I will be getting wasted in the heat with a bunch of friends, and I hope you'll be one of them! I'm not sure exactly when or where, but a meeting place will be decided on as the week progresses (it's very crowded, and hard to find people there, but since it's a parade there's no problem chilling in the same spot for hours).

Who wants to see some freaky mermaids (and mermen, and mermaphrodites) and whatnot? Last year's parade was huge, and awesome, and so much fun!

By the way, paging TPS! paging TPS! I was looking at a site for a theater space I know and found a picture of you, holding a classy fan, and blowing bubbles, right by the big cube statue at Astor Place. Are you involved with the space (or the party there, or the troupe holding the party), or were you just the prettiest passerby they saw all day? I fear the party might conflict with my mermaid activities, but hey, small world, and even smaller internet! I have the link and can send or post it if you have no clue what I'm on about.

jonmc: I am woefully broke and will not be doing anything remotely near Manhattan or drinking until Friday.

Hugh: The Coney Island Parade would be interesting, but I haven't done laundry in about six weeks. Plus, I'll be skating in the Dyke March tomorrow night, and then possibly looking at a new apartment.

Hugh, this parade is on my life list of things not to miss. It's right up my alley. I want to march in it one day, maybe in a little middy blouse with short-shorts and a sailor hat. Or whatever.

Anyway, I can't join you this year, but how about making a date for next year? Mermaid '08! Every year I say I'm gonna go, and every year I don't. Now I'm gonna say next year is the year.

I also have never been to C.I. itself. If I do make next year's parade, I might have to stay an extra day to ride the scary rides, eat the bad food, watch some burlesque, and enjoy the seedy, raffish, decayed seaside Victoriana I've heard so much about.

I am already beginning to plan out my costume. I'm going for a white/silver theme ::yaaaaaaaaaay:: Hugh, do you guys usually go to the ball? I bought a ticket to the ball. I remembered the thing I'm doing- a dance class from 1- 2:30 in Manhattan. Then I'll have to get cleaned and dressed up before making my way to Coney. Might miss the parade- at least I'll make the ball.
