please help me tell these bowls apart.. [More:]Please help me tell a Fruit Bowl from an All-Purpose Bowl from a Pasta Bowl/Rim Soup.

I'm pretty sure I don't need all of them, so I'm trying to figure out which is which so I don't end up registering for things I won't get much use out of.
(Even though wedding china as a whole kind of falls into that category....but it's soooooo pretty).
Just say to hell with it and register for plastic dogbowls, says I. Dare to be different!

If I had to guess, I'd say the small high one is the fruit bowl and the widerr lower one is the general purpose bowl. The one in the back is the pasta plate.

Why not just give the shop a call and ask them to be sure though?

Mmmm pretty. I am so not a china person, though. I'm more casual and mix and match. So I don't know.

What's the name of the pattern? It seems like it would be easy enough to find out what they're called someplace online.

it cannot be done. bowls of confusion have been used to paralyze people with indecision for centuries at a time since 4,000 b.c. in China.

run away and confront the Sphinx instead. you have a better chance of surviving and continuing on your journey.

but beware the leprechauns on the way who will lure you to their shanty for whisky and wild reels. and the hash dens on the waterfront, both of which suck you into nirvana-like dreams and revelry until years have passed, Circe-like, and your ship is buried in sand.

don't give up your quest. just venture forward with care...

I'm pretty sure fvw's right.

It's Kate Spade's June Lane. I've looked for pictures of the individual pieces, but haven't been able to find any. They all show the set. It's maddening.
My guesses are in line with what fvw says.
I'm going to take the Pasta bowl off the list.
Maybe this weekend I'll make some calls or visit the mall. Thanks everyone.

The large one at the back is definitely the pasta bowl/plate thingy. As for the others, I'd guess what fvw said as well.

christ you're all naive. fine, don't listen to me. but if it looks like tupperware, watch out--it's Pandora's box.

Either way, make sure you get even numbers so you can divide them for the property settlement ;-)

Hunh. And all this time I thought they were for haircuts.

The pasta bowl is the large one with the flat bottom on the right. The rim soup bowl is the large shallow one in the back. The all-purpose bowl is the one on the left.

Trust me on this. I've been staring at frickin' bowls for the last two days. My eyes hurt. Please shoot me...

fvw has got it. croctommy, pasta bowls are shallow and wide.
posted by Specklet 21 June | 17:02
Oops. That's what I meant -- the one in back is the "rim soup/pasta bowl". The one I called "pasta" is the fruit bowl.

Told you my brain hurts.
posted by croctommy 21 June | 17:17
Nope, I think you're still wrong, tommy dear. The fruit bowl's the small one on the left.
posted by Specklet 21 June | 17:26
Yeah I agree with croctommy - large one at the back is soup/pasta, general purpose is on left, fruit is on right.

I'm on team fvw. Fruit bowls have the little stand on the bottom.

Team fvw. We sneak in in the middle of the night, and label your crockery while you sleep.

I thought the fruit bowl was a variation on the fruit cup: a small thing with the little stand... And a general purpose bowl? Wouldn't that be larger so's to accommodate everything from dog food to shredded wheat?

Hmm.

Bowls are ubiquitous.

Well, I like both of the smaller ones so it's mainly knowing what the one in back was so I could remove it from the registry.

So thank you again for that.

We're realllly not fine china people either, but dragonflies have a personal significance and when I saw the pattern, I knew it had to be ours.
There's a few family and friends that will expect some traditional things on the registry, and we don't need any household things. These are a pretty luxury we'd never get ourselves.
I'd personally rather have matching wifi bunnies than place settings, but how to explain Nabaztag to Uncle Gerald in Nebraska?

Hell, they're all deep with sides...any of 'em works for me for anything...Bowl Anarchy Now!
